Thinking of buying a 911SC from 1988 / 89, problem is that I haven't driven one yet. Anone know best place to hire or test in the Suffolk / Essex area.

What should I pay for a nice up to 100k miles example ?

Cheers

An 88~89 911 (non turbo) will be a 3.2 Carrera and not an SC.

Best bet is to buy a good book on the subject. Then do your test driving, at least you'll know what to look for.

Yes, it'll be a 3.2 Carrera - good choice - a good one will appreciate in value. Exepct to pay £18k for a good one - perhaps £16k for a leggy one. The spec on these cars didn't change post 1986 (I can't recall offhand whether the integrated rear fogs came with the G50 box or after it), so as long as the car has a G50 hydraulic box, widen your search to late 1986 onwards cars. These can be bought for £15k.

Dealer-wise - Paul Stephens at Wixoe generally keeps examples of these cars, Robert Gant at Gantspeed in Lincolnshire services odler 911s and sells the ocassional one. The guy who runs Finlay Gorham lives in that area. Autostrasse at Coggeshall service these cars all the time and their noticeboard has private car ads up from time to time.

low 20s, no worse than your Impreza. As an everyday car had you thought of a 964 - see the other thread for details - £12k ought to buy you a leggy rhd car
