Does anyone know of a national chain which stocks goose all year round?

I know I can get goose mail order , but would prefer to walk in and pick up, save all the faffing about. Frozen would be fine.

Local butcher only supplys goose seasonaly . Farm shop likewise I do know another farm shop reasonably close by , so will give them a shout. If no go, looks like mail order then.

The GB shooting season for Goose is 1st Sept, across Xmas, to Jan 31st. So outside of this it is imported or defrosted.

A butcher will know his supply chains and someone who deals internationally may be able to get you a fresh bird. But can you stomach the cost of a fresh bird flown in from afar? Because any other bird is going to be frozen and imported, or frozen in season here and defrosted for you.

Moral: wait until Sept

This is a proper question, I am not trying to correct you.

I lived on an island in Scotland where geese are a real pest and I am sure you could shoot them all year round, are there different seasons for different geese? And are there geese that don't make good eating?

These kept causing power outages by flying into power lines (low level) and they eat an alarming amount of grass for their size. A farmer said three geese eat the same as one sheep.

Shooting seasons don't apply to farmed geese though, but they're very seasonal in when they lay, which fits in very nicely with Christmas, but any you were able to get hold of now would be a bit old.

Complicated.

But, the season is fairly strict on paper, and certainly for sport shooting. See here: https://basc.org.uk/game-and-gamekeeping/quarry-sp...

Shooting for other reasons is covered by a General Licence. " General licences permit 'authorised persons' to carry out actions that would otherwise be illegal. They cover certain types of activity relating to birds, such as preserving public health or air safety, and preventing the spread of disease. General licences cover situations that are regarded as relatively commonplace and where there is unlikely to be any great conservation impact."

See here: http://www.snh.gov.uk/protecting-scotlands-nature/...

For proper advice I would contact BASC who are usually excellent at this.
