On Friday evening whilst driving my 981 Cayman's front ParkAssist started to act a bit strange. I
to started to "sense" when nothing was close to it and when i parked up near to a car in front of me, it showed a Error message on the screen. I have checked all of the sensors externally and they look fine.

This is error is only on the front, as the rear sensors are working as normal.

Any ideas what is wrong before i take the car to my local OPC ? oh yeah it was raining quite heavy when this happened.

Mine does exactly the same, 7/10 of journeys.

OPC unable to assist other than polish the sensors, which is rubbish because the whole system is broken and therefore probably a central control unit.

my rear sensors are working fine so can only think one of the front sensors is not working
do they work in series or parallel ? can you test them ?
thanks for the replied

My issue sounds identical to yours, the front parking sensors work when parking but they come on randomly when driving along - sometimes displaying an error message on the PCM.

I took the car into Porsche but they couldn't solve it, the best they did was polish the sensors. It's now in again for the same thing so we shall see if this time is any different.

The rear parking sensors also did the same a while back but that was a onetime event.

Mine does this, generally in traffic, I am pretty convinced it's picking up other cars parking sensors and reacting to them....seems to stop easy soon as you drive off

Sounds odd, but is your front number plate securely affixed? It can sometimes vibrate and set the sensors off.

Ok OPC said it could be the number plate flexing (which it isn't), but they also said that the two sensors in the bumper are recessed and maybe have been pushed in hence the problems.

Without being crude, this is total rubbish because I looked at another 981 outside and its sensors are identical.

Not only that but if it were those two sensors then why do the ones on the outside of the car still incorrectly sense stuff?

It's obvious that it is not the sensor that is the problem but whatever is controlling them.

have the sensors been tested independently of the controller ?

Not that I know of, I wouldn't know how it is done.

Do you know where the controller is located?

So what actually activates the front sensors? Not all the time but sometimes I pull up behind another car at the traffic lights and front sensors start bleeping. Bloody annoying!

I found that light reflection sent mine off occasionally. Does sunlight or headlight reflection seem to be a factor?
