Hi Guys, I would like to replace my standard exhaust cans with something a little more rowdy !!!
I don't want to go down the decat route. I have sleeved the current cans and to be honest cannot hear much difference. Looked for carbon cans on line but cannot find any. Asked about the noisy white cans from Racetech but cannot find how much noisier these are. Your views as always are welcome

Pretty sure this is the Carbon Can Company bloke:

Noticed mine had been sleeved with mild steel, which is now rusting through nicely. Debating trying to hammer in stainless as a replacement. But I guess if they're now rusted solid, replacing then entirely might be the easiest way forward - hence me looking up the above!

I currently run decats with sleeved cans and find it fine, pops and bangs a go-go, and glorious on WOT!

I've got Powertech cans on mine. They look like the original carbon design but have a bigger inner bore diameter.
I tried sleeving but it sounded a bit tinny to me.

If your car is an early MK1 it has an additional silencer mid pipe, if you still have the cats in this fairly muffles the noise and the pops/bangs even with sleeved end cans. I have Powertech straight through cans, they are superb and make a great noise.

I have power tech noisy cans and they are great, although they wake the neighbours if I have to leave early.
Retain your old cans for the MOT.

To the OP, another option: knocking out the silencer boxes before the cans on either side makes for a much more attractive sound, without turning it to a raspy ratling as some cans are wont to do. Any good exhaust shop should be able to chop them out for not many readies.

As an aside, I need to know what de-catting does to the emission MOT test results for the Mk 1? And what workaround there is if it fails?

PowerTech loud cans are fine for the MOT in my experience.

Its not going pass an MOT without the cats. Unless you can find an MOT tester willing to turn a blind eye, you will have to put them back in.
