Abingdon Air Show incident,

After many years of airshow attendance, witnessed my first incident today.
A pair of SA1100 Twisters were displaying, when one lost power and crash landed.
No pics of the incident, and I am not sure of the fate of the pilot, but I suspect that, given the Thames Valley Air Ambulance which was based at the show was not deployed, it was thankfully not life threatening.
It was a long time before the pilot was extracted and taken away in the ambulance though.

Hope he/she is OK. I've witnessed two fatal accidents at airshows. It's not a pleasant experience.

From 4:30 the aircraft flys past stuttering with flames spitting out the exhaust before having an emergency landing.

Yes - the engine suddenly starting sounding very spluttery. I think he did very well to get the aeroplane around and down in one piece - although I'm not sure if turning back to the airfield was the best option.

I hadn't realised until a few minutes ago that I know the pilot - Chris and I flew at the same level in competition aerobatics in 2006 - he won the national championship that year, I managed third. He went on to higher levels of competition, and a lot more display flying.

Very relieved to hear that although he sustained some injuries, he should be up and about in a couple of days. Sadly, there friends from that era who are no longer with us due to display flying accidents.

I have seen a Red Devil have to ditch a broken 'chute before now and go for the reserve.

Heart stopping stuff as it was low enough to make you wonder....

Know nothing about plans really, but not sure i'd want to fly one with 'Jinx' written on the side!!
