Newbie purchasing first Caterham

Hi guys, probably an over repeated thread..... Total newbie to the car enthusiast world. Recently had a bit of a health scare which has been the catalyst for me deciding to buy my first Caterham. It has always been a dream of mine & thought it would be just that. There is such an array of different specs,cars out there it is difficult to know where to start. I have spotted one I like which has the 2.0 2000 Vauxhall engine. Any advice or guidance would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks...
Good to see you are looking to join the fold. The 2.0 VX red top engine is a great engine for a Caterham with lots of lazy power and torque. Pretty well bullet proof too. Excellent engine for road use and touring but plenty will say that if you want to do track days or competition work, a lighter engine such as the K series, Sigma or Duratec is the better (and younger) way to go.

Good for you, buy one you fancy and enjoy driving it 
I wouldn't get too bogged down in specs, to a certain extent they are all great fun. All will do track and road driving without complaining, but some will be better suited to specific uses.
Unless you are hard core, I would suggest looking for something with screen, side screens and a half hood.

Thanks for the input, I am going to do just that.
