I've got my sights on a 997.2S manual subject to a buyer collecting my 981 S PDK later this week.

I am trying to decide whether I should swap the 19" wheels for 18"? I think the 18" wheels will bring numerous benefits but I'm conscious of the fact that Porsche would not sell the 3.8 S model with 18" wheels.

Assuming I am not going to invalidate any warranty or insurance, which wheels do we think are best?

Assumed benefits: look better to my eyes, cheaper tyres, better fuel economy, better ride, better steering, more playful chassis, less chance of aquaplaning, more feedback, more fun.

Assumed dis-benefits: 295 to 265 rear width reduces traction, reduced cornering speed, PASM tuned for 19" wheels although I can't see how reducing un-sprung weight and increasing the tyre profile will interfere that?

The car will be used as a daily commuter but will also see time on track, Nurburgring and Europe road trips.

Probably the Carrera III as the Carrera IV wheels look terrible, IMO.

Carrera IV wheels are my favourite!

Any other comments?

Does the S have bigger brakes than the Carrera? Will clearance be a problem on 18s? That's the only thing I can think of.

I ran 18" winter wheels on mine, so they do fit and are an approved size.
