Hi guys! A friend of mine has just given me a pivilaged tour of his car collection... 👍
One of the vehicles tucked away is a 2-door Range Rover , believed to be around 1971 vintage. We have found a chassis number stamped near the steering box. Can anyone send me a link to anything help date / decypher the chassis number for an early Rangie? Many thanks, Lee

There's a massive long thread running on the RR Classic, with some very knowledgable bods in there. Suggest cross-posting.

Thanks! Very interesting....
That website states the very first engine serial numbers started 35500001A. He messaged me to say he found his chassis number near the sttering box, quote " 3550004?3A"
Not sure what it means exactly, I think I will go and have a proper look myself. But it seems to be an early one, not sure if the "?" is questioning the 4 or another number he is unsure of? If he is questioning in the 4, and if the chassis numbers tie up with the engine, it could be a very early one indeed?

Bloomin' eck! He just confirmed it is only 8 numbers and the letter A, ....... So I am thinking it may be number 43....

DOH!! I thought I had better double check the info for this, as it sounded too good to be true... The guy does not have the bedt eyesight and the VIN / chassis stamp were apparently worn. Unfortunately an "0" was actually an 8!!!! 😩 So 00843A is still sn early one, but no holy grail unfortunately....
