Why do kids get up early on weekends?
Discussion
I have a 4 year old step daughter that is still at nursery/pre-school and it is a struggle to get her up at 07:15 each morning normally resulting in screaming and tantrums. At the weekend she is wide awake between 05:30 and 06:00 and wants to get up and have breakfast. Bedtime is the same time each day and during the week she has about 11 hours sleep.
This morning she didn't have to go to nursery so was up at 05:10, I have a feeling it is going to be a long day for me.

My two boys are the same. When I left this morning they were both still in bed at 7.30am. At the weekend they'll both be up at 6am. The only good thing is that they're old enough to sort themselves out (get dressed, get themselves some cereal etc), so we get to have a bit of a lie in.
When I ask them why they say they want the weekend to last as long as possible, which is a laudable attitude to life.
Sometimes I get up with them and it's amazing what you can get done when you've got an extra 2 or 3 hours in the morning. My wife usually comes stumbling downstairs at about 10.30am and shuffles about the house until lunchtime. In winter she's barely awake before it starts going dark again....

My two (4 & 6) get up early irrespective of what day it is, one of them is usually up by 6:30am. I'm looking forward to them becoming lazy youth and not wanting to get out of bed before midday on any day of the week, either that or as someone else suggested entertain / feed themselves until I can be arsed to get up. Be more than happy if they want to play XBox or whatever to pass the time.

That is a great attitude - what age are your boys? (Sorry if too personal)
8 and 5, which might surprise people that we let them get up and go down stairs on their own, but they're both very sensible and usually get themselves dressed, get themselves some cereal and then they tend to either play with their lego or switch the telly on for an hour until I get up. I'm sure it won't last, by the time they're teenagers I bet we won't see them until lunch time.

I think you are both right looking at the information I have found on the internet. We will have to make the weekends more boring then
Or try to make their weekdays more interesting?

Seriously, a few years ago I moaned about my teenagers being grumpy and uncommunicative on a school morning until my wife helpfully pointed out they were probably following my example.

Good boys, OH and I make a real effort to go to bed early in the week to maximise the time we have at the weekend. If we have a full on week and end up crashing at the weekend it seems like a terrible waste of the limited free time we have.

Murphy's law mate. When you're tired she's wide wake. When she needs to be awake, she's asleep. When you actually get a day off work, she'll come down with the flu. I think God just messes with parents when he's bored hahaC0ffin D0dger said:

Eldest still snoring when I left for work at 07:45, youngest had been up since just after 6am though. Annoying nights sleep, the wife had gone to a school meeting in the evening as our youngest is starting in September. Met up with some of her Mum friends and decided to go to the pub after
Still not home at 11pm so I went to bed, just fallen asleep when she finally returns and wakes me, I'm desperately try to drop off again but no joy as she's now faffing with her phone etc. so we have a chat. She dozes off but I'm wide awake now
The she's up for whatever reason at 05:50 this morning, way too early for me, alarm not set until 06:45, manage to go back to sleep, daughter arrives 06:10 and starts having a paddy with me about getting up and taking her downstairs to find Mum, I tell her to go away. Managed to get another 30 mins in before the alarm actually goes off

Its not just at weekends for me either. School night or weekends then my 7 year old will be up between 0600 and 0700. In the weekday I am up between 0615/0630 and as soon as I get out the shower bang he is already up and down stairs asking for his breakfast. Weekends are the same but we can usually get him to stay in bed until about 0700. He has about 11/12 hours sleep a night.
I don't tend to mind it though as i currently like getting up early on weekends unless I have a hangover.
