Only 52.

Hugely influential, I loved Soundgardennas a teenager (and still do. for that matter). Discovered them by playing road rash on the PC!

Wow, that's a shock. Thoughts go out to his family.
A truly amazing voice.

One of my heroes,

i never got to see Soundgarden, hands down my favourite band.

My best friend was killed in a car accident in 1997, he'd given me a copy of Superunknown 3 days before. I listened to that non-stop for about 6months. That album is 'my album', every track is solid gold.

I saw Chris live in Newcastle a couple of years ago, just an amazing voice, an amazing presence and massively talented.

As far as I am concerned 2017 is a fking write-off now.

A sad day for music.

we need to get someone round to Dave Grohl, Jerry Cantrell and Eddie Vedder's houses and make sure they are ok, I dont want another 2016.

I was listening to that at the weekend. Great tune.

Gutted.

RIP

Saw Soundgarden a few times in the early / mid-'90's. Great band. Later solo & Audioslave stuff was excellent as well.

Very sad news. frown

Brilliant frontman with Soundgarden and Audioslave. Never saw him give anything other than a great performance over many gigs.

That's a real loss.

Morning spent with "Superunknown" on full blast, I think.....

Way too young, one on the best voices of his generation..

The first Soundgarden gig I went to in '92 is still one of the best gigs I've been to..

WTH? Just seen the news via a tweet from Jonny Smith on Twitter.

Shocked and stunned. I was at university when grunge hit. Loved Soundgarden and his solo work including one of the best Bond themes in years.

RIP Chris.

Damn. First proper realisation i am at that life poker table and starting to see some of my heroes check out before me, and younger than me. Enjoy life, respect people and the earth. Life is too short.

I think so too music

I've very much discovered/re-discovered metal of late and still love Jazz, also a bit of a hiphop-head though very rarely listen anymore, back in 6th form '03-ish we used to share music and various stuff was regularly heard in the study rooms we had, we only had a copy of A-Sides ripped, but that was on all the time. There are very few bands I keep in collection outside of my main genres, Soundgarden is one I always come back to.
