986 S metallic rattle from exhaust area
Discussion
Hopefully this might help if anyone is worried about a metallic rattle developing in the exhaust area of a boxster.
It happened to mine recently and it was just a case of removing the old heat shields from the catalytic converters and simply replacing them with exhaust wrapping (metal zip ties were supplied with the roll of wrapping) £7.50 fix for something that can really get on your nerves!!
of course there can always be other causes for something like this but I gather this is quite common...might be of help to someone...and might save a lot of money compared to taking to a garage
cheers.

You can check to see if those heat shields are loose quite easily (just get on the ground and reach for them) but there's every chance that the rattling noise is internal and replacing the whole silencer/backbox may be the only solution. I replaced mine with a supposedly low kms used one and it was fine for another year or so but the rattle is coming back.
