Dab radio lousy reception

Factory fit dab. Constantly loses recepton, so bad it is not worth using the dab channel. I thought it was just the way dab is, but having just been given a bmw courtesy car by my OPC and driven it home on exactly the same route as I went in the Cayenne without any loss/ break in reception, it must be the Porsche radio that is crap. OPC say will investigate, but no known faults. Anyone else experienced this problem?

Nope. Mine's awesome. I have CDR-Plus in a 981 Cayman.

How old is your car OP....my new Cayenne and my wife's Mini both have DAB which works really well. My old X5 the DAB was ste. My impression is that the tech has improved a lot in the last few years. On the new PCM4 you can get internet radio as well as DAB.

You want to try coming north of Preston...

The M6 is spotty as hell and roads such as the A590 and A6 are total deadzones for much of their length...

tried with porsche, mercedes, volvo DABs and none are any better than the other..

New PCM came in about six months ago on the Cayenne...I imagine it might be better.

Do you have any aftermarket chargers/usb chargers in the 12v sockets??

the Radio in my 991.1 Targa GTS on DAB the Station regularly drops out and says No Signal then it comes back in for a bit then out...does it depend where you are in the country from the broadcast? thought the idea of it being digital was that reception was good where ever you are?

Yes I do. 1 for the road angel in the rear seat sockets, which shouldn't impact on the radio. One for my phone in the usb socket in the armrest cubby. That usb directly links to the PCM - could that be the problem?

I think it still depends entirely on where you are. There's still even areas of London with poor reception.

That is exactly what mine does - and this is M4 in yhe Thames Valley, not north of the Arctic Circle.

Mine OK I do find it does depend on radio station choice which some have 2-3 settings in the menu also depends where you are driving to what's available.

Had one fitted in our camper, not so bad when stationary, much less so on the move.

Definitely remove chargers and check!! They are mostly unshielded and as the system has to accept (without modification) all signals - I would start by removing it.

DAB - Porsche = issues, it's well know.

Mine is aftermarket wired into a powered windscreen aerial. As soon as the lights are turned on and the back light on the stereo dims it clearly gives less power to the aerial so poor reception. I know its fixable but still annoying as all wired in correctly.

Yes agreed, My 2017 M3 CP DAB is very good, my Porsche was not.

same here on a 2015 Panamera. works fine in London, but rubbish everywhere else.

I can't help but feel they've given up on DAB as they know an FM switch off really won't be popular.

having said that although slightly annoying it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the car as hardly have the Radio on anyway....I'd rather listen t the sonorous engine note and pop and crackles on throttle off.....
