It never fails to amaze me how many people will walk off oweing you money, borrowed things etc often with the intention of never paying up or giving them back.

Months or years could pass, and if you dont chase them, you wont ever get back whatever money is owed.

Im the opposite, hence I dont understand people who are like this.

Agreed, I have several mates who fall into this camp, and then wonderwhy I say no to their requests...

Best one was the mate who borrowed another friends car for a weekend & kept it for three months, and the owner had to get the train from camridge to newcastle to get it back....

The mates is one thing, clients another. Those for whom you make a purchase at an expense, and a project is put on hold for a year, or cancelled, and they have feel its ok to leave you out of pocket, after taking the goods. Grrrrrr

Hmm. I generally find what happens is that I lend someone something and then totally forget about it. Months or years pass, and then I meet the person concerned and they say "Oh by the way, here's that so-and-so I owe you"... "Er, do you?" "Yes, you remember when..." "Er, no I don't, remind me..." etc. etc.

My mum always said to me, "Never a borrower or a lender be." I wish I had heeded her advice, so many times. Sadly, some people are very quick to take advantage of people's generosity. Others simply have very little respect for others or their possessions.

I agree.

In particular I am very careful about lending out books and DVD's.

For some reason, people don't seem to see these as things that need to be returned...

When I was a student I lost dozens of videos this way.
