My Stop-Start hasn't kicked in for a while, and yesterday I got in to just check fuel level and was told the battery was low, start the car, sockets disabled. So putting 2 and 2 together I think the battery might be on its way out as it gets used at least once a week for good length runs.

Reading about it sounds like a dealer only swap at a huge cost as you need to reset tps, steering angle sensor, windows and then something in the ECUs using the OPC cables.

Details as listed in the first post here:https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=770011

Has anyone with a 981 changed their own battery and had to do any of the above?

Are you in or out of warranty? If out, I'd go Bosch, £80, 5 year g'tee. If in... OPC.

BTW, mine did the same a few months back. Has been fine ever since with no additional charging and went through 111 point check last Friday with no comment on battery condition.

I'm Out of warranty so the £80 Bosch sounds a good option. Where was this from as I can only find batteries at £100+ for the decent brands

Ello.
Speaking from a 997 perspective, I've recently changed my battery with no issues at all. I went for a Bosch S5 010 85ah for it's higher crank output. On the car was an S5 74ah which was supplied by Paragon when I bought the car six years ago (given that 4 years is apparently the norm, I've done well then) but I wanted to go bigger and I have to say it turns over much better than before with the additional ompf.

I got mine from Tayna Batteries in Wales for just over £100 delivered in two business days, and fitting it was dead simple even though the new one was a fair bit wider as the battery tray can accomodate bigger versions. Just make sure you have the drivers window open with the key in on the first turn otherwise the alarm will go off and deafen you once the terminals connect! Some people leave their maintenance chargers connected and turned on to prevent total power loss to the car, but I thought that might create more problems than it solved, so left mine off.

Once fitted, a short drive reset the PASM, PSM, stop and operate the windows fully up / down a few times to reset the 'one shot' function and you're good. No OPC visit required thumbup

Can't remember now. Had a five year warranty iirc. May be they've increased?

Bosch batteries are warranted for 1 year only by Bosch.

the 3, 4 or 5 year warranties that you see are from the sellers/retailers of the battery
