I've been a couple of times and it's a superb day out. You can get really close up to the aircraft when they're not actually running. The event has very much a feel of an family enthusiasts day, rather that a fill on commercial event, which I find refreshing.
Watching the jets blast past on full chat is a full on visceral experience that you'll never forget! I'm really surprised the 'elf & safety' types haven't banned this yet due to noise. All the more reason to go, whilst we still can.....
A small note - you stand on the southern edge of the runway looking north - make sure your neck is protected from the sun.
