Big Country, the band (which album)

Is anyone familiar with their work? Which album would you pick?

"In a Big Country", by Big Country, has been playing a lot on 80s radio lately, and I really like that song. Unfortunately, I never got around to buying an album, and would like to get one, but they have several, including compilations. Can anyone recommend which compilation or best-of album? I looked at their official site, and Stuart Adamson died a few years ago. Too bad I'm only now appreciating this band after their frontman died.

I suppose the obvious is Greatest Hits. Saw Stui & the boys a few times. If Ferg was here he'd tell you which band he was in prior. I think I saw him in the Skids too....but that was many beers ago!

The album I have is The Seer. Includes Lookaway, probably their next-biggest-hit to In A Big Country.

Good stuff, but all a bit samey.

Saw them live at Wembley supporting U2 mid-80s - good warm-up band

Nope, I think it was Lou Reed, The Pogues, Big Country and U2 - Joshua Tree tour. Must have been 85/86?

I used to love big country. The seer was the first album I ever bought.

The crossing was my favourite album though. If your going to buy one album you can't go wrong with that.

greatest hits albums are good but they usualy miss all the gems on salbums that were not released.

Also if I remember correctly there was an album called steel town ? or had a song on ot called steel town which was excellent.

Yebbut, with Big Country you can play either an album, or a one single twenty times & not notice the difference.

I think i would recommend 'The Seer' Thats the album that got me into Big Contry.

I went to see them a few years ago in Wolverhampton, Glad i did it was an excellent gig in a smallish venue and a few months later the lead singer killed himself in Vegas!

I've also noticed that Big Country's drummer now plays in Damon Hill's band the conrods.

It was The Skids, yes!

I only saw BC once through a hideous drunken haze at the Reading Festival.....can't remember the year, but they were a fabulous band to see in those circumstances.
'Twas a real shame when Stuart died.....

According to one site, Stuart Adamson died of "alcohol related depression", and was found in his hotel room in Hawaii. Very sad.

Thanks for the advice. I did look on Amazon.com, and there is an album called Steeltown.
