Tonight driving through Tilehurst - Reading there was a traffic car at the top of Langley hill (by the water tower) and another at the bottom of the hill (by the A4) looking very carefully at cars.
One hour later they were both still there and also a Land Rover in the layby on the A4 who looked like they had pulled someone.

Boring work unless there are real results.

I hope that if they were looking for tax defaulters they weren't after those that expired at the end of March - unless they only gave people a stern talking to. Less than a day leeway seems a bit harsh.

Er, so you actually have no idea what they were doing then?

None whatsoever but they were eyeballing all the cars passing - looked like very carefully. But there didn't seem to be any camera/ANPR or any automatics.
Edited to add that I didn't hav a any problem with what they were doing, the wife was driving and (on the way back) I had a couple of pints, she had a Coke but it was refreshing to see real TrafPol (in Battenburg cars) monitoring the traffic. More power to their elbow I say!

In my force; officers from the tactical support groups (armed) also use Battenburg liveried vehicles.

For every trafpol officer, there are 3 armed officers. Silly situation.

Does this herald a change in tactics? Rather than book speeding motorists, they'll shoot them? - Streaky

Similar situation on Thursday - I saw a Battenberg loitering on the A404, parked on the Bisham roundabout exit. It was on the cross hatching in the middle of the Bisham exit (between the 2 traffic lanes). You couldn't see it coming Northbound on the A404 until you were nearly at the roundabout. They must have been waiting for something/someone, no ANPR or similar in sight.
