Dealing with Ebay cases?
Discussion
Has anyone had any success fighting eBay return cases.
I foolishly sold my broken iPhone on eBay, advertised as having broken screen with pictures of broken screen.
The buyer instantly got in touch to claim that the finger print id didn't work and couldn't be fixed, and raised a refund request. I asked him where he had taken it, how he knew it couldn't be repaired. He just stated that it didn't work and therefore couldn't be repaired.
The phone 100% worked when I reset it, and packaged it like fine china, so I don't for one minute believe that it didn't work, although at the end of the day he bought a broken phone, that could be repaired if he took it too Apple. I really can't help but feel that I am being taken for a ride.
Finally a week after the return deadline, he raised a case with eBay and they have now sided with him and so he now gets a full refund when I get my phone back. My suspicion will be that what I get back won't be what I sent or it will get lost in the post. Best case is that I am now out of pocket for eBay funds and 2 x postage.
So the question stands, has anyone successfully had one of these decisions overturned, or if the actually goods fail to materialise had any recourse?

eBay returns are a total joke from the seller's point of view.
If I, as a seller, send you something, you can say it was not as described, eBay will believe you and allow you to return it for a full refund at my expense. No matter what you send back, as long as you have proof of delivery (which you are getting at my expense don't forget), eBay will refund you in full.
It's an absolute farce.

I thought you can get the fingerprint I'd hardware repaired by an authorised repair company? I know it's controlled what with the secure use of payments etc utilising it but I'm sure Apple do repair?
You can. I am pretty certain I am being scammed.Expensive lesson learnt, eBay account closed.
Could open package before signing, but can't see postie going for that.
After being stung several times with returns, i now always makesure i tell the buyer that my item was security marked so will be checking it prior to refund. Sometimes that results in the item never coming back, although its still pain as you have to wait for 4 days after the return date to close the case.
I was caught once with a scumbag buyer returning his damaged item in place of mine, even though i had my original photos and it was clear the item had different part numbers etc ebay sided with the buyer. I now record on camera opening any returns i feel maybe dodgy, whether that would help with ebay i dont know.
If the buyer is returning it and has done so through Ebay's return system they will have a got a return postage slip to use, normally royal mail, so any tracking details will be automatic. Ebay Live chat i find is the best way of sorting out problems or at least recording your concerns about the transaction.

I spoke to eBay at the start and voiced my concerns that I was being scammed. Not sure the person I spoke to spoke English. We will see what happens. As a seller, in 99% of cases you will lose.
I've been using Ebay for a very long time and I can count on one hand the number of issues I've had - all of the ones that have surfaced have been relatively recent, so I guess that as time has gone on people have arrived to just "ruin it for everyone else".
I have successfully won as a seller - they did a "item didn't arrive" however I'd sent RM Special Delivery (despite not mentioning that) and when the signatures arrived from RM with a very clear signature the claim was dismissed.
I have however lost around 3 cases and in each one I was in the right.
The most recent was a router which I know was 100% working as I removed it from my own connection, factory reset it and posted it the same day.
Guy contacts me, cannot get his internet connection working with it. I send him instructions on exactly what he needs to do. Next day his internet is working but he doesn't know how to setup a DMZ.
I send him instructions on how to do this.
Next day a dispute is raised "Item is faulty or otherwise not as described". I answer the dispute and the following day they have ruled in favour of the buyer. I'm out of pocked on the delivery for sending it to him and I've got to pay for him to return it to me.
I still use Ebay, but only ever sell items I'm willing to "lose out on". Mobile phones are definite no-go as far as I'm concerned.

Time for an update.
So the seller raised a case with Ebay which he one, FFS.
For some obscure reason he then did nothing and a week later I got an email from ebay telling me that since there hadn't been any recent activity. They released the hold on the money, hurrah.
Another week passes, and in the post this morning is my phone. I have checked, it is my phone in the original box with everything in it, minus the sim tool.
So now I have the money from the sale, and I have the phone back. It appears to still work although without a sim there is not a lot I can do. Going to pick a free one and try it.
The suspicion is that the buyer found out how much it would cost to repair, and backed out. or just wanted a phone for a couple of weeks and didn't want to pay for it. His whole approach seems a little odd in the time he has taken to raise the case/return the goods. It wasn't cheap!!
Now I just have to stop eBay from taking my money off me. I guess there is nothing to stop me from closing the account.

I don't think Ebay like people opening a previously closed case, so not sure how that would work. I suppose he could go after the money directly through Paypal or his card company, if that's how he paid the paypal cost at his end?
Though it's entirely possible that the idiot has just paid you several hundred pounds to post your own phone back to you.

I don't want to keep both, and have no intention of doing so.
As far as I am concerned he has bought the phone, I have just set up and it works perfectly there is nothing wrong with it. eBay shouldn't have sided with him.
So he gets the phone back I keep the money, but I am not paying for it to get sent back.
When I sent it to him, the postage had to be used in 48 hours. It looks to have been done through eBay like I did, so he must have posted after the case was closed.

There are times just to give it up, and this is one. You have the phone, just refund his dosh & move on. (any other move will not go well)As far as I am concerned he has bought the phone, I have just set up and it works perfectly there is nothing wrong with it. eBay shouldn't have sided with him.

You may well be right, but there is a principle and at the moment it costs me nothing to stick to it.

t about sellers. A buyer can return anything they like for any reason. Even if you put "no returns" it means nothing.
