2004 Alfa Romeo GT V6

Hello all,

Not sure if I've gone mad or if I have an addiction, but I've bought a 13 year old Alfa.

I should say this isn't my first Alfa, (I had a Mito Cloverleaf before) but it is my first V6. Everyone seems to agree that the Busso V6 is one of the greatest engines so when I had enough spare cash I started searching.

I have always liked these especially in V6 form.
Never owned an Alfa but I do find myself perusing over them fairly often in the for sale ads...

Bookmarked I've been looking at one for a while, seems like a very nice car, just that 3 year cam belt interval that's a bit annoying. Will be very interesting to hear how it is to drive and own.

As a fellow busso V6 owner (156), looking forward to hearing more about this.

Is this intended as a daily car or for weekends?

Is the car standard? Any plans for updating the exhaust/intake/suspension?

Well it had the belt changed in January, then the front suspension replaced in March time so the two really weak points (of many) have been changed so hopefully it shouldn't give me any issues.

It's going to be a weekend car, though I may take it to work on a sunny friday

Excellent - I also have a silver one of the same vintage. Got it for buttons as the cambelt had let go, spent £2k on parts and 6 weekends rebuilding the engine. No trouble since (4 years ago).

It really needs an LSD, it can be a little unruly getting the power down when exiting roundabouts. Other than that it is a great car. I've got a Wizard cat-back on mine which sounds fantastic.

Gorgeous looking car, a few more pictures wouldn't go a miss.

There's no need for a stereo with that V6. I haven't had the stereo on in my GTA since I bought it 4 months ago.

I've taken it to work today, seeing as it was sunny this morning. I'm not sure if it is a lack of usual traffic or the car but I got to work earlier than usual....

The radio isn't the best but who really cares when you have that noise! I'll put some more pics up later.

I had an '07 Q2 GT

I loved driving it, but let down by so many 'Alfa-isms'. The climate control drove me mad, seat cables breaking, door handles falling off and general flimsyness. I actually miss it though and would love to try a V6

Well it's been almost a month since I picked the GT up and until yesterday all was well....

Then this happened in rush hour traffic.

Also had a couple of break downs in traffic. Turned out to be a fuel pump solenoid IIRC.

I had a GTV for a while and the AA man told what a good looking car it was every time I saw him

But seriously the Busso is amazing and those seats in tan are probably my favourite in any car ever, hope you get the niggles sorted and get back to enjoying it

I'm hoping it's just the clutch slave cylinder as the pedal went down and stayed there, we shall see as it is being looked at this week.

I knew it was going to be less reliable than my previous Alfa but hopefully this isn't the start of the car living in the workshop....

Sounds likely, cheapish fix if it's the case.

Other than made-from-chocolate suspension bits and a gearbox rebuild mine has been okayish over the last 6 years.

Well I've had a phone call from the garage it got dumped at (nearest one to where I broke down) and it appears that the flexi hose that goes onto the slave cylinder has been rubbing against the bodywork. Great, we know probably what the issue is. Not so great the hose seems to be obsolete....

Give Russ a ring and he will make you one in any colour you like normally within 24hrs. Probably cheaper than an OE part too!

Try Autolusso ( http://www.autolusso.co.uk/ ) - they break down cars for spares or might be able to recommend a substitute.
