cruising along the M40 this am, 85ish, keeping up with if not slightly faster than the flow, dark blue "Unmarked" Mondeo, gives me a flash of the blues behing the grill, tells me to slow down, in a rather over exagerated kind of way, definitely not Traf pol as he was wearing a T-shirt and jeans, he then proceeded to do it with everybody seemingly doing over 80, whilst he was doing about a ton, before slowing to tell everybody to slow down.

Happened between Jcn 4-2.

RA54 VXL, anyone confirm or deny he was plod, Tony Rec etc etc etc...

Was he plod or a wanna be ??

Any equipment on his dash? Personally, I'd report it to the police. There have been instances of cars being discovered with blues behind the grilles, for carjacking.

Didnt someone report a local who was taking the law into their own hands by putting blues behind the grill and pulling over people he thought were breaking the law? This behaviour does seem a little odd...

Nope, he did have a 2nd door mirror on the passenger side, 1 on top of the other, which made me think it might be plod.

Everything else was screaming that it wasnt plod though...

It's a few years ago, but a colleague of mine got stopped on the road past Marlow that runs up to J4 M40 by a guy in an unmarked Vectra (flashing light on the dashboard). He was also in T Shirt & Jeans. Gave colleague a bollocking and let him go. Co-incidence?

One of the very subtle spotting points for unmarked plod IMHO . However, just as easily copied if you are going to the trouble of fitting blues and twos though .
Surprised one of our regular friendly plod posters hasn't confirmed or denied the reg plate though . Unless its a SB/SF car, probably get dshot for looking up the plate , with an idiot on a day trip behind the wheel, but unlikely.

Might be worth reporting it to your local station to get them to confirm or deny if it is though. There are some sick people out there and if this is legit all well and good, if its not though, you will be doing someone a great favour in advance IMHO.

The legislation states that only a constable in uniform can require a vehicle to stop. (Though I think there are other terrorist related Acts that *might* be relevant).

Unmarked in uniform at J2 yesterday afternoon was a metalic gold Omega. But I have seen dark blue Mondeos flying past with blues in the past on the M4 near Slough/Windsor... Also once saw a Black Range Rover on the hard shoulder with blues going and 2 guys in very long overcoats stood on the verge. Bet that was embarising!

Is that correct? I'm sure a local Mag had the book thrown at him when he refused to stop for a unmarked car with non-uniform Bib. He turned around and drove the wrong way down a slip road to get away, saying he thought they might have been terrorists.

Unlikely to be SB, Mil etc as its drawing too much attention to themselves, DP and RPS don’t often use Mondeos…

I quick look up of the reg "Regional Identifier" (first 2 letters) shows it to come from Nottingham, well thats where it was registered.

If it had been X or Y for the first letter I would say MET, but as its not then I have no idea. Short of PNCing it there is no way to find out (and that still might not tell me as it could be under a restricted PNC entry).
