I'm sorry if this topic has been 'done to death' but oils for the o'l girl (AMV8V 09).
I've done a fair bit of homework and it seems there's a lot of information out there and a lot of it is all over the show. I moved over to the US so the oils here are not the same (labels) as the UK so there's (read 'a lot') of confusion.
I emailed Aston directly (techinfo@astonmartin.com) and here's the answer I got:
If you are looking to top up I would suggest using 10w-60 Castrol Edge Supercar Titanium FST – Advanced Full Synthetic engine oil. This oil exceeds industry standards for the specifications required ACEA A3/B3. However, if this oil is unavailable, alternatively a fully synthetic 5w-50 or 10w-60 oil meeting the specification ACEA A3/B3
We have the Edge oil here in the States, not the Edge Supercar Titanium FST version. The Castrol website just say to use the standard Edge oils... maybe that's the way to go. The ACEA standards cover a LOT of oils - is it really that flexible? This might seem ridiculous - but I'd really just like to know what oil other folks are reliably using here in the States. Too big of an investment to screw it up... if you know what I mean.

Does oil especially fully synthetic have a shelf life ?
I have got various unopened ie TWS Motorsport 10/60 which has sat in my garage for probably 10 years - previous M3.
I normally buy new oil because I didn't think it worth the risk but would I have been ok ?
I believe Mobil 1qoutes five years shelf live for their oils. AFAIK, shelf life for synthetic oils can be extended beyond five years if stored in a location without temperature extremes. Ten years might be pushing it. My recommendation, it's not worth it.I have got various unopened ie TWS Motorsport 10/60 which has sat in my garage for probably 10 years - previous M3.

Thanks all - oil level needs a top up (about the same level as when I brought her in March) - so this gets me rolling till an oil change is needed.
My mileage will be (guessing) 3-5K a year, on the low side of when I would normally change a synthetic oil - it seems most folks follow a 12 month cycle irrespective of milage (unless high) - would that be a fair assumption?
I was thinking of going to the AM dealer for the first oil change (since my owner ship) - just not sure it's worth it. Looks like a straight forward process to me - and saves a grand in the process. I'm happy to spend the $$ but I'd rather buy a new fermentation tank for beer and call it 'free'

Yep, 12 months is very common since AM's stated intervals are 10k miles/1-year, whichever comes first. It's an easy job so long as you know where everything is:My mileage will be (guessing) 3-5K a year, on the low side of when I would normally change a synthetic oil - it seems most folks follow a 12 month cycle irrespective of milage (unless high) - would that be a fair assumption?

Hi...go to www.redpants.lol Rich has videos on oil changing...also discussed the oil grades.
Six speed has tons of threads discussing oil for the engines on AM...vantage is 10w60 synthetic only unless you want engine damage.

Does the oil have to meet a specific ACEA or the likes? The Castrol Edge Supercar Titanium FST 10w60 (that's a mouthful!) does to A3/B3 A3/B4. Or is it a case of just putting in a high quality fully synthetic and quality branded oil which meets the spec?
From the horses mouth - so to speak -I emailed Aston directly (techinfo@astonmartin.com) and here's the answer I got:

A few years ago my AM dealer was using Castrol Edge, as stated in the handbook.
At a subsequent visit they used Mobil 1.
As stated above, all seems fine providing the grade and the meets the specification requirements of (whatever it is), is adhered to.
I did wonder whether that change from Castrol to Mobil, was something that Gaydon had instigated. Presumably manufacturers continaually play one against the other, with their suppliers.
What are the dealers using now?
So long as you're using a fully-synthetic 10w60 oil (or 5w50 in cold climates), that meets or exceeds the standards that were current at that time, you'll be fine. Castrol rebrands their oils constantly, so there's going to be a lot of confusion if you try to compare Castrol Edge "types" - especially across markets (like UK vs US). More info here:

exactly...just use an oil that meets the spec ...no more complex than that. Castrol may call it "super dooper platinum" next year, if its fully synth 10/60 to the same spec it will be fine http://www.redpants.lol/blog/2015/12/30/the-v8s-th...

its still Castrol 10/60 in the workshop manual...
My 10w60 liqui moly has been sitting for a year but very few miles so I had as much oil sucked out from the tank around 6l and refill with 15w40 fuchs truck plus oil for high tbn and zddp contents. The engine runs really well and feel much eager to rev.
I'll change to 10w60 soon but I needed to replenish the tbn for now.
