It is my fathers 60th birthday soon and I am struggling to think of a suitable present.

He's loves his cars and has a little race car that he has built and I dont think he intends to use it now. Not sure why, possibly age caught up with him?! He also has a small collection of modern/classic cars which he uses and loves.

A member of GRRC and heads down there for events a fair amount - revival, festival of speed and members meets.

He's got 5 children, teenagers up to early 30's. Not sure it's relevant but he likes doing things with all the kids - although it's very hard to get everyone together.

I think I've got to keep in mind that as much as he doesn't look/aged much in the last 20 years, he is still 60 and anything too exerting may be a bit much.

I thought about

- British touring car hospitality tickets
- A tour of a car manufacturer (Not Aston Martin as been done several times)
- A weekend away with the wife while I look after my younger bro/sis. But then, I am not sure that is really special enough.
- A day out in Europe to do something... a trip to Paris to buy a....!? Something of sentimental value.

Total budget - circa £1000. The budget isn't a target, more of a rough maximum!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I was 60 and my son 30 in 2014. We had a boy's week away to Stuttgart visiting the Porsche and Mercedes museums, then onto Le Mans for the 24 hours.

PS 60 isn't as old as you seem to think !

I would love to do that, but I think a day is the maxiumum amount of time I could get from him!

In that case, I'd recommend a trip to Palmer Sport at Bedford

Isle of man TT, jump on ferry as a foot passenger this weekend and head over or get more firm plans sorted for next year's race? I know you said he likes Cars bit what petrolhead would not be blown away at the TT!

Car hire is out as he has some pretty nice motors, but i'll try to keep in mind that 60 isn't old! Maybe a Mclaren Zimmerframe.

My siblings and I clubbed together for my dad's 60th and bought him a flying experience lesson, as this was something he had really wanted to do for many years. Managed to get one that was a bit more than the usual 45 minutes, by spending a bit more. So I too would recommend an "experience" gift
