Hi Guys, this is my first post here.

I have a 4L Tuscan 5 speed - been fun to drive but its was left for three weeks without starting.

Tried and it fired once then died - no starter motor either and 'Fault J' on the screen. I'd noticed the starter getting slugish over the previous month so thought it was a flat battery - hooked it up to a drip feed for 12hours, the ammeter gradualy showed full. But - click - no starter ? - my local dealer said its probably a dead battery - What do you guys think ? ( its an X reg with the original battery )

Anyone know what "Fault J " is ?

Thanks in advance

Don't know why I asked that question really.

Thanks for the prompt!

Thanks guys, but I'm still none the wiser as to why the bloody thing won't start. Guess It'll just have to be taken back to the dealership.

Stupid question, but do tuscans sell from owners ? or is it best to go via a dealer ?

( my accountant has just been put down for five years and I'm getting a little bit worried about my books ! - not kidding )

Had the deposit in the bank for my Tuscan within 7 days of putting the ad on PH. Admittedly, that's a bit of a special case , but everything sells at the right price...

Edited to add: What do you get then, if no starter motor action? Can you hear the fuel pump go? Dash pod still light up? All the rest of the electrics still work?

Hi guys. Interesting list of faults.
Question, is this list for MK1's? Also does it matter what age your steering wheel computer is as mine has been changed? I had heard that there were several different lists of faults depending on age and spec?

Two reasons to celebrate today.
One. I get to pick my Tuscan up from Top Cats today following a few winter mods. (and a bit of TLC).

Two. I managed to get a pair of Glastonbury tickets on Sunday. Will be my third time there and i cant wait. (needless to say I will take the Shogun and not the Tuscan. Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud........)

J-S-G

- I get the noise of the fuel pumb whiring as normal when I press the button on the key - the dash all lights up as normal. When I turn it to start I just get a click then 'Fault J' - Nada !

Having I taken back today to dealership - probably gonna get them to broker it for me

Sounds like the ECU won't allow the engine to start because it can't ascertain what the oil pressure is?
Or is it not that smart?

I had the same diag fault code appearing intermitently on mine. Once I discovered the diag codes on PH and learned it was the Oil pressure sensor. It turned out to be a loose connection to the sensor. That sorted it has not come up since. Code J did NOT affect the starting or running of the engine. I would look at your Fuse/Relay box. Having said that I would hope a dealer should be able to tell you after they have plugged in an OBD tool.

what ever it turns out to be I am sure many on here (me ncluded) would like you to share the knowledge.

Best of luck

Graham
