I've got myself an as new IPQA 3630 from a work pal and a Navman GPS jacket from ebay, promised to be working 100% fine (the chap seems nice enough on email too). Oh and a um trial version on TomTom 3 too, for the time being

Now... the jacket port is certainly OK as I have written the UK maps to the Compact Flash card, which is held in the jacket. Problem is now running TTom's GPS status utility, it just sits there not finding any satellites.. its in my MR2 with galss panels in a position where my Roiad Angel is very very happy. Have left it all morning & no joy as yet

Any suggestions as to what I could try guys ?thanks
Ed

Just one quick check before you head over there - have you set up the connection from TomTom to the Navman GPS?
(Open TomTom GPS, click on GPS tab, check your GPS model & connection are set in 2 dropdown boxes, and that there is a tick in the box to the left of these 2 dropdowns.)

TomTom's GPS utility may well be looking for the TomTom mouse, which of course you don't have. Goto www.pocketgps.co.uk and ask them

This is the jacket :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5760635652

The seller tells me he selected Navman GPS1000 from the 1st box, which gives no choices (ie just 1 item) in the 2nd box 'GPS receiver'

One thing I've just thought (and shyly announce) may be an issue (?) is the auction states 'jacket for Ipaq 38XX series' & I've got a 3630. Bloke at work convinced this OK, and with the jacket on the CF works properly... have I made a schoolboy error ?

Have just orderd the car charger which is now on its way so easier to test when it arrives.. battery konks out after couple of hours

thanks all
Ed

if its a wireless gps receiver - is it charged up?

Sometime you need to turn off the PDA but leave the gps receiver on, then turn on the pda.

No idea about the gps jacket, but if all else fails just get a road angel to pda cabel from Holux UK for £30, then (assuming it is working) sell the jacket on.

I cannot get my NavMan GPS to work with TomTom Navigator
Please note that your NavMan GPS requires NavMan software components (such as NavManCom.DLL, iPAQDDK.DLL, and OptPack.DLL). These are distributed together with your NavMan Hardware. The TomTom GPS package does not include these proprietary NavMan drivers any more.

If its any help, i am using iPaq 3970, TT3 and a co-pilot jacket...

My settings are :-
1st Box - Tom Tom Navigator GPS
2nd Box - Co pilot i-jacket GPS
Changing the setting in the 1st box seems to change the options in the 2nd window.

Try setting the 1st one to TomTom Navigator GPS and see if anything in the 2nd window matches your jacket type...hope that helps

What you need to do fella is load in the Co-pilot application (Not the maps or anything else), Because that contains the the driver for the jacket. It will then then show up in the tomtom gps application after a SOFT reset. You have the Ipaq navigation version of the navman 1000 and it is only designed to work with software that came with it, Thats why you have to load the Co-pilot app. And only then will tomtom work with it. I'll give it a try tonight.. many thanks ! I was going to install the copilot app next as it happens (plus maps though) to see if it worked at all, and then attempt to get TT3 to work. If it works I'll email you an e-beer, when they're invented.

cheers!

While you're playing with the settings have a look at the dots on the Status screen between the satellite & PDA symbols:-

When there is a connection between the PDA & GPS (and before the GPS gets a lock) these will indicate it (dots go black from from left-right etc.)..

Good luck!

will do. Certainly never seen those dots. Installed the CoPilot stuff this evening & got 7 satellites (I think.. the interface wasnt 100% intuitive to me). Have removed the 70Mb of maps for the CF card & so now reinstalling TT3. We'll see....!

thanks guys

Excellent - nice one!

I use useful POIs from PocketGPSWorld Safety Camera Database and POIPlace.

Other useful add-on software is CheckPOInt (provide warnings when approaching sites), and UKPostCode (as suggested by the above poster).
