Does anyone have any tips on how to sort out the mirror pod fixings. While washing the wedge last week I noticed the nearside pod was loose , I tried tightening it without any joy , one bolt snapped and the other just spins around, guessing by the amount of repair washers used...its been an on going problem. I have cut through the remaining bolt and removed the pod. Is it possible to remove the triangular metal plate ?
cheers

One bolt will probably hold it on but they are very sturdy pods and for maximum strength you'll want all 3 on there.

I remember one time a cortina pulled out on me on the A45 years ago, as I was passing. We clipped wing mirrors and I totally destroyed his one, I could hear the glass tinkling down the side of the car. Barely a scratch on mine when I got home!

TVR often only used 2. I know they used on mine. Then again, on other car all 3 were used.

Note about those bolts - use stainless. The bolts and nuts on mine had rusted to nothingness. It seems the mirror pod is a nice rust incubator.

Back to the question - The triangle plate is part of the front window runner. To remove, you'll have to A) undo the 2 bolts at the bottom of the door (Door trim card will have to come off for this) B) undo the 3 screws you see at the top of the triangle plate thingy.

Then, with careful juggling, the front runner can be lifted up and off the car with window kinda in place inside the door.
YMMV, as the door inside bits are often in slightly different places and what works on one car won't on other... I know the rear runner won't come off with window still attached, but the front one should do.

When i took my mirrors off for respray and whilst i was stripping the doors to check and grease etc, i removed the bolts and put in new countersunk setscrew, then tack welded them in. This way now the mirrors pods can be removed without problem. I didn't use st/st, just mild steel but laced with copper grease prior to putting mirrors back in.
