It's a slow one, and I have done another 150 miles on it (pumping up every day or 2). Took it into a tyre place today, and before even getting the car in the air they noticed it has picked up a nail miles too close to the edge of the tread for comfort.

Tyre ordered, and possibly foolhardy, possibly not, going to get the tyre place to fit it tomorrow. Need to go another year without this happening again, or I'll start wishing I had gone for tyre insurance!

Anyhow, the question was, do Porsche dealers normally charge full retail price for tyres? Didn't want to risk it when I am pretty sure it will be quite substantially cheaper to go elsewhere.

If your car is less than 90 days old you can still purchase the cover. I'd do this if you can.

Re OPC tyre prices, yes they can be competitive but you need to ask and have a local quote for comparison.

Try your OPC Liam.

My previous Porsche (981) needed new boots 12 months ago while it was at my OPC for a service. Service Manager enquired why I'd not asked them to fit the tyres while it was there. "Coz you'll be flippin' expensive" says me. "Not any more" was the reply. Fitted me two new rears for about £10 a tyre cheaper than I could find anywhere else.

OPC prices not too bad for my replacements due to punctures, 1 front and 1 rear? Both under £300 each and they don't trash your wheels!

That's at least 50%over the odds, not great.

Used the tyre dealer. Lad that fitted it was super careful, I was quite impressed as I hadn't told him he needed to be. £221. I'm going to carry on without the insurance and see what happens.

I used the cheapest local dealer to fit mine - £7.50+VAT per wheel! Had to wait a while the guy who does expensive cars (!) became available - but super job.

Had a similar experience when I cracked my windscreen - I didn't get any Autoglass oik to fix it, but someone who had (allegedly) a lot of experience on Porsches - and he was good.

Do you go for (according to their old adverts) the "reassuringly expensive" Stella Artois or reassuringly cheap (now) Stella Artois?

Congratulations, you are marginally tighter than me - which is no mean feat! smile

Funniest thing was that I checked tyre pressures on return from tyre fitting, and the tyre fitter had filled to about 4 psi more than what I thought was the recommended pressure. I generally want to check pressures with an accurate gauge after anyone else has filled my tyres, as most don't seem to have such a tool nowadays, and it seems sort of obvious to me.

Checked the manual this evening, and it turns out that OPC had gone over by 2 psi on the rears when the car was collected. None of which affects the price of fish in any major way, but imperfections exist in both experiences, and my assumption that OPC would have given me the car at recommended pressures maybe didn't make an ass out of u, but quite probably out of me.

Reassuringly expensive, but flawed, or reassuringly cheap, but slightly more flawed. I'm guessing I'm £100 better off for going with the latter, and either way I needed to set the pressures correctly for myself.
