2 Marked Police Motorcycles Westbound, one in each lane.
A gap of half of mile or so.
One marked Police Car in front of an HGV with a 'doughnut shaped' wide load.
One Civilian Escort Vehicle with orange flashing lights behind the HGV.
Seemed like overkill unless the HGV was carrying something sensitive.
Any ideas ?
It would depend on a wide variety of things
The width of the load
It's destination
The road layouts it will pass through
The roads it will travel along on its route
Any potential roadworks on those roads
The local constabulary's requirements on the movement of wide loads
The bikes may be there to close off junctions whilst the car is there to guide the load on a specific route. It varies from area to area, some like a proper police escort in addition to the normal escort vehicle, others will happily let you plod along on your merry way with nothing but a fax telling them you'll be passing through
