Unadopted roads grass verge legality?
Discussion
Hi I wonder if anyone can help I live down an unadopted road in a close of 20 houses although it is made has street lighting etc and the rest of the road is adopted. In front of the properties is a grass verge and the property boundarys end at the start of the grass verge then a kerb before the made road.
Now the way I believe it is that each property is responsible for the maintenance to the centre of the road and the grass verges and have right of access and homeowners in the street/ public have right of way.
Anyway some bright spark thinks he can build (hard landscape) over part of this land ie raised boundary and raised paving etc He already has a driveway which gives him access to his property.
Can anyone please clarify
Cheers

I lived in a private road once (5 houses at the end of an unadapted road) and the deeds divided the access road into 5 lots and assigned each lot to one of the houses, with access rights given to the others. The deeds said nothing else and so long as you didn't prevent access you could do what you wanted. If it's not covered by covenants in the deeds I think they're able to do what they want.
