Biturbo V12 goodness!! (Merc)
Discussion
Hi all
So Im 6 months into life with the CL600 W216 and Id thought id update my thread
I LOVE it!

I traded my E60 M5 in six months ago and have never looked back. The M5 was a more involving drive but I was getting increasingly concerned at its fragility having replaced throttle actuators, ionic sensors and the clutch was on its way out. Amazing car and in amazing condition but it was time for a change.
Mercedes CL600 biturbo. 500 bhp and huge amounts of torque. Mine has the AMG kit amd has been subtlely lowered. Also has a bespoke exhaust from CKS to allow you to hear a little more of that V12!
The driving experience is very different. It is insanely quick and picks up speed from almost zero revs. Very different to the BMW V10 which needes to be revved to get it moving. On paper the two cars perform almost identically in acceleration terms but the way they do it is very different. The Merc is an auto but can be driven as a manual with paddles in the wheel. To the honest I dont bother! Just squirt and go!
Inside it is pure luxury. Bear in mind its a 10 year car, it has heated and chilled seats, adaptive radar cruise, soft close doors, TV, etc etc
I did get off to a bad start - the two things that go wrong with these, both went in space of 2 months - £1200 coil pack (whole bank) and front ball joints. Got these sorted with some goodwill from the dealer and since then it has been a joy!
Plans? I did consider a remap which takes it to 580-600 bhp but I dont really think it needs it and I dont want it to break! The wheels are beautiful but they are diamond cut and are going to need recutting soon. I am resigned that these will need doing at least every 12-18 months to keep it looking mint.
These cars are a bargain I think. Original bill with the car in 2007 - £120k! I picked up the car for 20k. I viewed quite a few CL63 before settling on this car. BHP is officially identical but I prefer the twin turbo V12's torque. Apparently the V12 puts out more than the 63 but for marketing reasons the 600 was "officially" rated at the same output
Anyway hope some of you find this remotely interesting. Not sure what Id replace it with - maybe an M6 when they lose a little bit more value
cheers!
Simon

Congrats Simon, what a machine! I am currently obsessed with the v12 mercs of this era and am very close to pulling the trigger on one myself (s class).
What do you use her for daily or high days and holidays? The info is so sparse on these it's great to see someone's real life experience!

Hi mate
Yes she is my daily driver - but I only do about 10k miles a year. My weekend car is a Dax Rush!
If you go for one, please make sure you know when or if the coil packs have been changed. They WILL go wrong and it causes bad misfires. Bear in mind there are 2 - one for each side - and the part alone is £1200!

Thanks for the heads up Simon, not sure if they've been done but does have a merc warranty for peace of mind.
I'll be doing the same sort of thing myself re miles in her maybe a bit more with the honeymoon period.
One practical question can you play your MP3 through Bluetooth or do you need to be hard wired ?
Cheers Brooke and more pics!

These are phenomenal value. The newer ones are a bit softer to look at mind you but the spec available for sub £20k is amazing.

He's had that for sale for an age. If you could knock 10% off the asking you could stick £2k in a bork fund in case a coil pack went! For example:
