Don't think I've ever spent more than about £100 on a watch before, so this is indeed a treat for me - a new Tag Heuer Formula 1 with rubber strap:

Well done you for stepping out of your comfort zone.
Not one many on here would buy, but it obviously justified itself to you.

...and a proper car?

Has the Stag still got its V8?

That's really nice mate, I was given my Tag Formula 1 a few weeks ago for my 30th by the misses and I'm very chuffed with it!

Very envious of the V8 though!

Probably over on NP&E after all it is election time smile

The rest of us can appreciate proper watches or £100 Tag's politely wavey

I have a photographic memory and travelled in one 35 years ago.

I like that, but know nothing about watches, are we in the thousands on this?

No, the Tag Heuer "recommended retail price" is £750 - with the rubber strap.

I still find myself questioning WHY I can't be happy with a "cheap" watch?

Seiko are the world's largest watch company, yet I just sold my brand new SNZH57 with SS bracelet and Brady Sailcloth strap...

I admit to being one of the brainwashed many who believe the marketing hype, so called sporting links, product placement, "history" of the brand, jealousy, snobbery, etc, etc, that is Rolex. I am very very narrow minded.

Look at the OP's TAG and the Seiko. Every bit as good looking as a Rolex.

I tried to find a few watches that I simply liked the look of but in the end couldn't ditch the Rolex and must have another. What is this strange power Rolex has over me? And now my son - he was looking at a TAG Calibre 16 last year but is now hanging on for a Rolex GMT. My fault, and my wife's too. Is Rolex run by the Cybermen?

So, to the OP, I salute you for not bowing to convention and for choosing a watch you simply liked the look of, with a well regarded (by normal standards) name.

Damn, I'd have had that Seiko off you, I mentioned that in another thread.

Back to the Stag - that dash is identical to all Triumphs of that era, surely? biggrin Certainly the 2500/Dolomite.

DJMC we must have similar tastes. Although I did not spent a lot on a watch until I bought my Tag last week, I've had a fair few watches! I've just dug out this old Seiko - I'll have to get a new battery fitted and see if it still works (I appreciate my Seiko is not a patch on yours though!):

Also the watch which started my interest in Tag Heuer - my Targa Florio

Sadly not a genuine one though! A "replica" I got in Turkey about 5 years ago. It still looks great though. It's also a proper automatic and still works perfectly and keeps good time!
