V8 Vantage Sportshift issues

I've got a 2008 V8V with the Sportshift gearbox. Over the last couple of weeks it has twice decided it cannot select any gears. Once from a standstill at a roundabout, I down shifted to 1st, it immediately put the red warning light on on the instrument panel and the message read 'unable to select gears....?' Second time doing 70mph in 6th it randomly selected neutral and the same message appeared. In both cases I stopped, switched off the car, left it for a minute, and it reset itself and all was well for the remainder of the journey. (Clutch is 5k old and I do clutch learns on every first start of the day and it's smooth even in reverse!!!)
On the first occasion I tried selecting different modes on the buttons but nothing worked. Has anyone got any ideas before I head for the dealers? Sadly my trust in the car has taken a nose dive.

When I first bought my 2010 model I had the same problem it can be caused by old hydrolic fluid in the clutch system this is a cheap fix.
I had the Bamford Rose upgraded clutch and flywheel fitted and it transformed the car I absolutely love it now!

You'll need an AMDS to change the fluid in the clutch line.
The clutch line fluid is commonly overlooked. It should be changed out as often as the brake fluid, and at the same time since it's the same fluid in the same reservoir. Very quick and easy to do, but the SportShift does require an AMDS. DO NOT drain the clutch line in a SportShift unless you're using an AMDS. You won't be able to refill the line without it!

The clutch line / slave cylinder on SS can indeed be bled without AMDS, no probs. An easy at home try to get the system working, Just undo bleed nipple, cycle paddles into neutral / 1st and top up SportShift fluid bottle, with SS oil.The clutch line fluid is commonly overlooked. Yes, On manual cars the clutch slave cylinder is actuated using brake fluid / brake master cylinder, but SS slave cylinder is actuated from ASM solenoid pack using ASM oil, so it's not the same fluid, not the same reservoir for SS
Hi Bradford Mike..this is the first time I heard of this being able to be done....I have read many threads here and other sites and everyone is scared to death of changing this fuild for fear of wreaking their trans...
I know on my asm transmission there is a separate tank using different fuild for the clutch under the car.
Wow...when you say put paddles in neutral...pull both back or let go into neutral after you let the clutch learn than turn off and drain?

I can understand folk being scared to touch the SS system at home, even some specialists with or without AMDS are a bit wary. But yes, to simply bleed the clutch line there is no point cracking open the AMDS. However, most problems on SS are never simply the clutch line fluid. On manual however the brake fluid is susceptible to overheat and pedal going soft / to the floor so a bleed is a natural remedy - the same doesn't happen to the SS fluid from solenoid pack controlling slave cylinder. Yep I've tried 3/4 learns and I always do a learn from cold. Hasn't happened for a couple of days, I've been advised by my local AM dealership that there is a wiring loom chaffing issue that may well be the cause of the intermittent problem. Their knowledge of the problem seems good and I'll give it a try.

Hi Bradford Mike...thank you for explaining further...I agree bleeding just the clutch line is not the solve all...I recently had an eight year service done as I had no base line...the clutch line was not bleed but the fuild checked.
Another smart guy on speed six told me generally on ASM trans only really changed on clutch line when doing a full clutch change otherwise normally not done.

Guys, I need help.
I accidentally started bleeding the clutch line on my 2008 V8V SS thinking it would be the same as a manual version when I was replacing the brake fluid.
I know how much fluid I removed. Can someone please tell me, what type of fluid is this and where should I replenish it from?
