I have been considering my options at the moment and a few select roles cropped up that piqued my interest so I sent over my CV over for consideration.

Its been about 15 years since I last actually applied for a job (lucky me) so I am a little out of touch with the usual protocol.

I was just wondering what is the usual time frame from sending in a CV to getting some sort of response, and when is it appropriate to get in touch directly if you havent heard anything?

Do I leave it a few days or a week, or should I just assume that if they havent got in touch then they probably aren't interested (despite being perfectly qualified for the role!)

Thanks

My method would be to call the company/recruiter when someone there can have your CV in front of them.

In this digital age, to not respond in any manner is an absolute disgrace - a problem I am currently having with a so-called "disruptive" company.

I've found it depends on the company.

I applied in Early November to a large company via their website. I therefore didn't know who the recruiter or hiring Mgr was. I got an initial "thanks for the application" e.mail immediately, then nothing until March !

If you expect a response from every role you apply for these days you are in for a VERY big shock. It's the exception now, not the rule.

If they are interested they will be on you (agencies). Companies have there own process but same rules apply.

About 50% of people I speak to electronically suddenly just go quiet. I think it tends to be younger adults who just can't be arsed with a courtesy reply. I'm talking business contacts not just social. It's when I then see them soliciting for business on social media after ignoring a couple of my emails re business, I'm wondering if I should publicly reply to say they will just go quiet without any explanation so do not deal with them.

Cretins, the lot of them.

On Linkedin, where I have sent two HR people three messages (between them-same company), they both have "we're hiring" under their names. What you said also crossed my mind two days ago but thought better of it. I emailed one of the people yesterday and have heard nothing. Nothing. Not even a "thanks but no thanks." As I have access to a global company database in my line of work, I was able to get a landline that is not published on the website but even the sloane on the other end would not put me through and had the heart to say "perhaps they're not interested".

I was fuming! (after the call)

As has been said, no response is most definitely the norm these days unfortunately.

I've also come across this a lot and find it incredibly rude when you've been digitally introduced to someone (by friend) and the person you've been introduced to just doesn't respond. It's happened a lot more than I imagined it would, obviously they could think what I'm selling is sh!t but a little courtesy email is always nice I think.

Happens quite a bit mid conversation as well, like you said, people just vanish. Maybe people have too many emails these days and can't be bothered to respond.
