I have seen the thread(s) and comments about €9 a pint and am starting to think about how I can have the odd cold / cool beer without having to take out another mortgage. We are staying at Porsche Curves where there is no electric hook up so no chance of taking a small fridge. I will be arriving Wednesday so a wee trip to Arnage on Thursday and possibly Friday morning for some ice will be fine and I can keep that in a cool bag. Once that's melted does anyone have any suggestions for Saturday and Sunday? I don't want to take the car out after very early on Friday.
the better the quality coolbox you have the longer it keeps cool, top it up with ice on the Friday like you said and it will still be cool on Sunday. Try not open it to much and keep it in the shade.
I use the Outwell Ecocool, you get what you pay for.
You can get ice at SuperU Arnage, 1 euro for a frozen bottle i prefer these over the bag of cubes, dont be too late on the Friday though as they go quick

I'm not expecting to be able to get ice whilst there unless someone knows otherwise? I will use the cool bag just to stop the beer getting warm. I don't think I will be able to keep it ice cold unless my many frozen 2l bottles manage to last the weekend.
You can buy ice from the fish counter in les supermarchés. I think they also do frozen water bottles. If you mix salt with the ice it will go to a lower temperature than plain ice but you will have to rinse any cans or bottles in fresh water before necking it from them.Take 2 cool boxes. Fill them with ice when you leave, the bigger the blocks the better, I found freezing takeaway containers or old butter containers filled with water fit quite well as they're square but it will take a couple of days to freeze solid in a household freezer. Then when you get there place all the ice that's still ice in 1 cool box and put the beers in the ice water in the other cool box and slowly add ice when needed from the 1st one to keep the beer cool but remember to replace the lid on the ice cool box as soon as you've grabbed the next chunk. That way the ice will last longer as the lid won't be opened every time someone wants a beer. Put the ice cool box in a cool place, out of sunlight and wrap it in sleeping bag or something to insulate it more. Refill the ice box with more ice during the weekend from a supermarket, again only removing a bit at a time although if it's ice cubes they won't last long! If possible refill both with ice and chill as many beers as possible for the Saturday before finishing off warm beers on the Sunday

I found that cans of beer and cider keep perfectly cool with no ice or anything in the frunk of a 911 a few years back. I managed to replicate that last year in the boot of the BMW too, so I suspect it's a case of keeping them somewhere like that and heat transfer being less/more in cans.
I've also in previous times (although not at LM) wrapped stuff in those large yellow hi-vis jackets you wear on site, and they've done an exceptional job of keeping drinks cool. I know none of these options are particularly great, and indeed may be rubbish with bottles, but that's what we use these days instead of faffing around with ice. Means we're only on canned options which isn't great, mind.

This! A decent coolbox and either ice bottles, ice bags or bags of ice from the fish counters in the supermarches. We usually bring some frozen bottle over with us along with some chilled beers. You just need to make sure that you get rid of water and keep the amount of air to a minimum and don't open the lid too many times, i.e. synchronised beer drinking!!I use the Outwell Ecocool, you get what you pay for.

That is disgusting. Pure profiteering. This is not the ACO's doing, but the outlets forming a cartel. The price is dictated by the bar owners once they have paid the 'Proxi Boisson' fee.
Other than boycotting the bars, which won't happen, they will get away with it.
Isn't it all run by the same company? Concept Restauration?Other than boycotting the bars, which won't happen, they will get away with it.
But I agree with you. We decided €10 a pint was the end of drinking within the pay line and brought cans with us.
In the past they have used a system where you buy your first outrageously priced 500mls for 10E which includes a commemorative cup. Then 5 or 6 euro to top up.
It is another way to fleece you under the vail of eco friendly, but I am sure that this will be the case this year too. So not too horrific.

Unfortunately the deposit for the first cup is only 1 Euro, so not much saving for subsequent beers. However it is well worth digging out your stash of prior year Le Mans cups from the back of the garage and taking them with you!It is another way to fleece you under the vail of eco friendly, but I am sure that this will be the case this year too. Another one here for buying a quality coolbox.
We paid 100 for a 47l Coleman coolbox last year.
Froze a load of wate and some Padthai curries.
When we got to south of France 6 days after leaving we still had the centre of the curries frozen! And that's with constantly opening it during Le Mans.
Obviously the more volume of the cool box you can fill with ice the more efficient it will be but we just used 500ml bottled water so at least we always have ice cold water that we could drink even though big blocks would be more ideal such as tubs ....
We have 2 cool boxes this year so one will be used to be the intermediate fridge and the other the freezer.
