PistonHeads activity at Le Mans 2017

It’s now just over a week until we’re heading out to Le Mans, so here’s what we’re getting up to and how you can get involved. If you’re staying on one of our campsites with 1st Tickets, then you definitely want to read on!

We’ll be returning to the Classic British Welcome for our Friday Service this year for the third year running and anyone is welcome to sign up and join us. It’s free to attend and we love going back for the amazing atmosphere, eclectic mix of cars, and of course to gather with PistonHeads members ahead of the race. You can sign up here, and we’ll send you a print out to put in your windscreen so that the marshals direct you to the PistonHeads area to park within the event.

Now for the fun stuff if you’re staying with us and 1st Tickets on Bleu Nord or Premier Vert! At midday on Friday, Aston Martin will be bringing some of their drivers to our Bleu Nord campsite for a Q&A before they head off to the drivers parade. So if you’ve got any questions you’d like to ask or are interested to hear what they have to say ahead of the race, make sure you’re in the marquee for 12:00. Campers staying on our Premier Vert site are also very welcome to join, just make sure you’re wearing your 1st Tickets wristband to gain access to the campsite.

This year will see our first ever pub quiz on Friday night at 20:00 at Bleu Nord, and we’ve got a once in a lifetime prize up for grabs! We’re looking for teams of three (we can help match you up with other members if you’re short) to test their knowledge on subjects ranging from French cheese to Ferrari. This is only available to those staying with us on one of our private campsites.

The four highest scoring teams will want to clear a space in their schedules on Saturday night, because we’ll be taking them for an in-race tour of the Aston Martin pit garage! Here they’ll get an incredible insight into how a race team operates over the weekend, a spot of hospitality (free beer!) from Aston Martin and, hopefully, see a pit stop too.

If you want to take part in the pub quiz please comment and let us know to give us an idea of numbers. If there are a lot of you, we may have to find our Dafydd a box to stand on so you can all see him as he announces the questions. Look forward to seeing you all there! thumbup

Is the Friday Service invitation for sports car owners only or all PH'ers?

(ie Is there any point in me signing up if I'm not going to be allowed in driving my puny Yeti due to the average Frenchman's prejudice against practicality & versatile seating )

Edited for clarity.....

In theory it's sports and classic cars only for the main event, but we're a bit different at PH. The whole point of a Sunday (errr, or Friday) Service is that everyone is welcome, irrelevant of what they're driving.

So a handful of more normal road cars won't hurt – just make sure that you print out your window sheet that'll be emailed out later this week and show it to the marshals, who'll point you in our direction. We love a Skoda at PH too!

ooh, we're generally in town after the parade at that time on a friday, but tempted to make an exception given the prize on offer!

Great to see that we've got quite a few teams for the pub quiz that want to get involved already!

We've also got an amazing opportunity to meet some drivers and team managers on our Bleu Nord private camp site on Friday with 1st Tickets. Here's the line up:

12:00 Aston Martin Racing
12:30 Gulf Racing
13:00 Jackie Chan DC Racing
13:30 Graff

To find out what the teams have to say ahead of the race and to ask questions, make sure you’re in the marquee and bar by midday.

One of our veterans has put together a guide to Le Mans for 1st Tickets, so it's definitely worth a read and printing out to take with you. Not long to go now! biggrin

Just added my name to the Friday British Welcome. Should I expect an email to print out?

Cheers

Hi Ross, I think Jack sent out the second raft this morning so you may have just missed it, but I've just picked up your email too and will send it you soon when I have it from him. See you there!

The Park and Ride will be sign posted at the roundabout 1km before St Saturnin when coming from the centre of Le Mans. This roundabout apparently has many of the hotels near it, and is on Boulevard de Maule. The main D338 road from Alencon comes into this roundabout from the North.
The road off where the park and ride is situated is called Rue Lucien Chaserant - on the left if coming from Le Mans, straight across if coming from Alencon (North). Below is a map for an overhead view...
