Using a Sky+ HD box without a satellite signal
Discussion
We have just moved back in with my partners parents and as I am still in contract with Sky I have transferred the package to their house rather than cancel it as it works out to be cheaper. We will only be living with them for 2 months before we move into our own house and they don't want a sky dish on the outside of the house which is fair enough. I thought I would take the box anyway, connect it to the internet and watch catch up TV and programmes that I have already recorded on it.
I plugged the box in, connected it up (with no satellite cables) and it won't let me access the planner. I spoke to sky and they said that the box can't be used at all without a satellite signal.
Is there anything that I can use to give enough of a signal to get the planner and catch up TV to work? I don't care about watching full sky TV, I just need enough signal to get the box to let me in. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Then buy a roll of the coax cable/ F type plugs to screw onto it, check the orientation everyone else is pointing their dish in & set yours up as best you can.
edit; You will get a chunk of your money back selling it on to the local caravan club.

It's all or nothing, the planner schedule is transmitted as part of the satellite signal. Though a single feed from a dish will get the box running - just no recording a [ETA] second with a single feed.Does a neighbour have a dish nearby that you could tap into?
Otherwise as above - get a temporary dish and run a cable from that.
Buy your cable from a local electrical trade/retailer not somewhere like Maplins, a 50m roll should be less than £15 which you can bundle with the dish when you sell it on.

I'm sure you can record with a single feed just not two programs at the same time (or watch one channel while recording another) - a single feed should also allow you to record on channel while viewing something from the planner.
You are of course correct - I should remember to read the post twice before clicking.Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
