As above, my wife's car, 2014 bought from VW dealer. Now done 60000 miles but only 443miles in 4 months of our ownership. Took back to dealer (under warranty) as air con had stopped working, also mentioned that I thought the drive train was noisy possibly a wheel bearing or something in the transmission. Had a call from the dealer saying the air con was a perished seal, OK happy with that. They then went on to tell me that the gearbox will have to be removed as that is the source of the noise, but until they have it stripped they do not know what exactly the problem is. Now I know this car has done a few miles for it's age but I would have thought that a gearbox should last better than this, are there any known faults that I am unaware of; I feel the dealer is being a bit cagy although they have confirmed that the work will be done at no cost to me. On checking the mileage when we left the car with them (they normally insist on this) and checking again when we picked it up it had only done about 1/2 mile despite me requesting they do a road test, this makes me suspicious that this is a known problem; however they have told me that it is OK to drive until Monday when it is booked in. Anyone else had this problem or can make any suggestions as to the fault.
Thanks.

People don't generally have very nice things to say about VW gearboxes but I wouldn't be overly concerned if they are going to repair it at no cost to yourself.

I dare say the previous owner got rid because of the issue.

Had a rough whining noise from my 2009 A3 1.4. Originally thought it was wheel bearings but ended up being worn gearbox bearings. Was a £800 repair at a transmission specialist.
