Hi Guys,

Anyone have any real world experience of one of these monsters?

Think I have been bitten and now have to get one!

Cheers

Yes, I had one for a couple of years. Great car, probably the best day to day car I've ever had. Ridiculous grunt, superb comfort and very well built. Hope to get a W222 one day.

Hi Largerlout I read lots of your posts about the car and I am desperate to get into one. Trouble is as you know they are so thin on the ground that they arent easy to find! I am considering a s63 or s600 as a compromise but I know I would regret it. Trouble is time is against me and I need t get into something soon!

Any suggestions or who to speak to about finding one? Also anything to watch out for barring coil packs/suspension engine mounts and brake wear?

Thanks for the reply!

I have owned an S65 for 8 years and sold it recently to buy an S600. On my Garage section I have a complete history of all the costs for the S65. So here are my thoughts.

S65 first

I bought in s months old and with 4000 miles on it for £105,000 and sold it 8 years later for £20,000. Originally the car was £175,000. So as expected a very high depreciation. When I sold it it was an awful lot of car for £20k. The car was beautiful to own and drive. It is so fast and from 70mph it is wonderful. The ride is quite harsh. The sound at start up is wonderful buy thereafter a little muted. You won find a car that can shift 4 or 5 people so easily and quikly. The car attracts a lot of attention - those who know what it is really appreciate it. But as it gets older the costs increase. You need to look at my costs experience for the detail but tyres (especially rears) are annual changes at £1000 a set of 4. The front disks go at about 50,000 miles ad are about £2000 fitted for OE. The electronics are a problem - I have incrred a lot of costs on ignition banks etc. So watch the costs

S600

Early days but the first thing you note is the quiteness and the comfort level. So much better in that respect. It is also quick too. But it hasnt the same pull a 70mph for sure. I also had to get a new set of disks and pad fitted and they were £650 vs £2000 o the S65!!!!

But the following are my conclusions

1, Once you have owned an S65 no car comes close
2. I asked my son whether the S600 had a nice sound when I dropped him at school and he said Its not the S65 Dad
3. The reality is though that the S600 will be cheaper, more comfortable and performance wise will not be much less than the S65 - but I know it isn't an S65

I will buy another S65 soon. There's your answer!!

Thank you Falconwood, i have also read all of your points which was really useful and has lead me to decide that I will have to get a tier 1 warranty mb warranty for piece of mind.

I really really really want an s65 but just cant find one, I have narrowly missed my perfect car which literally makes me feel sick when I think about it a facelift w221 with mb warranty.

Any idea or suggestions on people to speak to help find one?

The s600 I am considering is this a highly specced correct age and warranty;

the only half reasonable s65 is this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-56-MERCEDES-BENZ-S6...

Trouble is its older than I want more miles and doesnt have a warranty and as its out of warranty its 3k to get it into one but something I will probably still do.

I have asked for a health check on the s65 and it looks ok ish

Just wish the s65 was the age and mileage of the 600!

There was a stunning one on auto trader last week. 2010, 56k, fsh and still under extended mb warranty for another 9 months. £32.5k. I rang just after he had traded it in. Waiting for it to pop back up somewhere but will probably be £40k.
