Hey all,

I have been wondering what it would be to rally a Caterham. Wouldn't it be fun? A car with a great power to weight ratio, RWD, easy to maintain, ... The numbers show that it would be lots of fun to rally those cars around twisty roads. As rally enthousiastic, am I the only one who thought about this?

I found a video on youtube of a french driver who is rallying a Caterham on a closed circuit, so it's not actually stage rallying.

The Academy car is road legal, right? It would be a great rally car. (FIA roll cage, normal road tyres, dif, .... )

Yes I know, it's crazy but just think about it. Would it be possible? There are some limitations:
- Would it be possible to meet the FIA safety requirement (Roll cage --> side impact)
- Can you actually rally a car without a real solid roof and door?
- Weight rules are a problem but FIA should come up with a "RGT light" smile

What are your thought about it? It may be Utopia.

BTW If Caterham is reading this :"If you can are able to transform the Academy car in a rally car, contact me please" smile

Regards,
Going Straight Sideways

Minimum weight stops it being feasible - we looked into it years ago, and I can assure you that the regs haven't got any less stringent since.

I would also imagine ground clearance would be major obstacle.

They have been used in rallycross though....I saw pix of this recently.

Probably quite some time back and I think it was a Lotus Seven S3, in fact.
