911 996 TURBO change to Maserati Gt or db9

hi everyone, thinking of getting out of my gorgeous 911 turbo, and wondering anyone else has made the switch into a db9, or maserati gt. if so what were your thought?

I too am looking at a Maserati GranCabrio. I also have a DBS so can tell you they are completely differant beasts. Both cars are more grand tourers than sports cars, the Aston feels a lot bigger to drive than the Maserati, but feels a lot smaller inside. The Aston also feels a lot more "special" than the Maserati with a much plusher inside. However, you do get a lot of rattles and squeeks, but you can put that down to character.
I would go for the Aston every time, or if your lucky, get both :-)

Always looking ahead to 'what next'. Only had my 997.1 turbo three months & thinking 'what next'. Longer term I'am hopeful for a 718 GT4 (we can all hope ). Plan was to keep the turbo until I knew whether i was getting the next GT4, but may have a play with something non-Porsche in the meantime. Quite like the Maser GT & Aston (although prefer the V8V to the DB9). Currently thinking maybe M4 - but I'am always changing my mind. Get the Aston V8V & take it to Topcats Racing for them to supercharge it to 573hp!

thanks for the replies, unfortunately i need four seats (dont have to be full size just exist) so has to be db9 or gt. looked at a db9 and gt today unfortunately the gt wasnt the 4.7, so will have to wait to compare drives

I was planning to move from a 996 Turbo in to a DB9 or Maser too. Decided on AM so went to see the DB9s as I too thought 4 seats would be handy (as they were in the 996).

How I laughed when I saw the DB9 'seats' up close and realised you couldn't get anything in there, ever.

I ditched that idea and got a V8V; haven't looked back!

If you want a 4-seater, then I'd recommend you consider a Maserati Quattroporte. A 4-door Italian V8 and if you go back a few years, with a Ferrari engine.

I went from 997 c4s to Mas GT last year

Easy room for 4 adults (db9 doesn't work for adults in back) , decent boot and fuel economy. Seat not as supportive as Porsche.

Sound, looks and image are next level up from Porsche absolutely no question, GT is like an Aston in that people love it.

Chassis / chuckability nowhere near as good.

Overall as a drivers car not as fun. But as an ownership proposition if u need 4 seats and a special GT it's an awesome machine and I love it

Not crazy power but perfectly good for uk traffic and you get longer to enjoy listening to the Ferarri derived v8 with the pedal pinned, without risking license.

Also GT to me is far more special than the QP.

4.2 4.7 both not that fast by modern standards anyway so don't get too bothered by it. I drove my 4.2 all over sussex today on a variety of roads and did loads of overtakes etc, it was not wanting power. Both will seem slow compared to a TT 996. Henry Catchpole preferred his 4.2.

Agree image is a step up in some ways at least ref will impress non car people more but the step down in driving experience for me would be far too much. I actually like that 911s are somewhat discrete while being great to drive

But it's way slower.BUT for the Uk would be ok.
