Hi All,

Im thinking of upgrading the wife's car and have found the above, 50,000 miles, private sale.
Spoken to the seller, seems a nice honest guy.
The question i have is, are there anything mechanically i need to be looking pout for around this mileage?

He had new discs and gearbox oil done 12,000 miles ago, also the thermostat done recently.
How do the gearboxes themselves hold up?

Any other info would be helpful?

Also, any owners thoughts on the car?

Thanks

Dan

You've an excellent resource on this very forum:

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

It's about as comprehensive a list of S4 questions and answers as you'll find anywhere.

Sounds like gearbox oil was done bang on time (38k). From 2010 on they're generally fine.

Supercharger belt coming up (56k from memory) but this isn't expensive.

thermostat on ours failed at 50k too (2011 Sportback) - seems rather common and I gather is covered under goodwill in the USA....

Drive a couple if you can - best practice if setting off in traffic is just to lift off the brake and allow the clutch to engage before going near the throttle. Makes for smoother progress. Shouldn't feel rough selecting gears, but the car will often hold 2nd gear even at 1mph so can feel a bit lurchy to the uninitiated!

There's actually a TSB on this; apparently it's a measure to prevent the gearbox oil getting too hot.

Interesting smile

Sounds a bit like the TSB for corroded exhaust tailpipes on the car, which recommends buying Audi's special liquid for cleaning them (for about £25!) - nothing wrong with the quality of the plating, oh no.....

It's crap - got an 8,000 mile car downstairs and it's already peeling.
