Morning all,

Friend of mine has the unfortunate job of chosing one of the following: Gallardo, DB9, Bentley GT.

Now, if you had just turned 18, what would it be.

I am against the Bentley in everyway but he seems to like it. My choice would be the DB9 in black as I saw one last night and it looks bloody special. I will take him over to see a few but he is convinced the DB9 will make him look like an "old ". His words not mine.

Gallardo is so much smaller up close and he is a big 6.4" lump of meat from down under so I thought it might be a bit of a squeeze for him.

Any other suggestions? SL55 perhaps but a common sight over there. Car will be in LA and not doing huge miles.

MARA

Ok, I just want him to get the DB9 so I can drive it!

From memory, the DB9 is tighter inside than the Gallardo, so the Bentley might be the best bet. I like your idea of the SL55.

But for an 18 y.o.? I think he'll look a bit silly in any of them!

Morning Mara,

Aston or Lambo - if he fits either of them - not Bentley. You can't see into the first two, but he'd be like a goldfish in a bowl in the Bentley.

Buy him a pair of glasses with plain lenses - puts years on anyone.

No charge for my advice on Sundays.

My first question would be what does an 18 year old do to be able to afford one of those??

Second one would be would you want an 18 year old - more than likely inexperienced driver driving around with all that power?

He has a few years of experience in an M5 and just bought a Range Rover vogue so he has some powerfull cars under his belt.

He is not fat (before he kills me) just tall and built.

Might swing over to the showroom over here now and have a sit in the Gallardo to check it out.

Morning Sir McNab, thank ye kind sir for not charging

there are a few horribly chromed examples here www.rollsroycebeverlyhills.com/

Avert your eyes!

MARA

how does an 18 y.o afford this? Come on....rich P's of course

Had a good poke around a DB9 in manchester, very very nice. Beautiful interior and lovely sounding engine. Out of the three I would go for that.

how can you have a few yrs experience of driving anything when you are 18? MAkes no sense?
He will look silly in all of those cars!
Why not go for something younger and fun : 911, Sagaris, ferrari 360 etc.........

I'd go for the Gallardo I think, if he's quite large the DB9 may be a bit of a squeeze to fit in.

In California you only need to be 16 to get a license, and I vaguely remember that you can even cruise about before this age if you are supervised!

Another vote for the Gallardo though. Would be interesting to learn what this youngster does, he a rapper or something? bling.

Get him into a Noble. M400's are now sold in the US and fine for people over 6 foot.

If he's into fast cars that are unique, IIRC there's only one other Noble in CA right now.

A few year's experience in an M5 at the age of 18? You'll be telling me next he also has to kick Kylie out of bed when he's really tired

The Bentley is pug ugly, and I cannot see how on Earth he thinks he'll look old in a DB9 and not a Conti GT. The Conti willl age him by at least 20yrs more and make him start smoking cigars!

If it were me, I'd have the DB9 (though if I were 18 I'd probably err toward the Lambo).

And I'd also advocate him buying a 70s Ford Escort RS1800, or even a MkII GT. Forget the shininess of other cars, or bird pulling (if he can't do that at with his credentials, he needs shooting!).

These have ultra kudos (to petrol heads!) and will teach him how to mess very nicely with a rear drive car (much more so than an M5).

Jealous. Moi? Never

DB9 every time

Or, if his parents can afford the premium, an Aston V8 Vantage.

If they're after saving a few 'bob, how about a Maserati 4200?

Life's tough for some, eh?

At 18, Lambo. (Unless he's the 18 going on 40 type).

The DB9 would be my second choice. The Cont GT is just not an 18 year olds car for me. Especially since he has the comfy cruiser requirements covered by the Range Rover.

I'm 6ft, and my bro is 6ft2. We both have no problems in the Lambo. The DB9 seemed very similar (once the seat was pushed fully back).

Sent a little email to Rolls Royce of Beverley Hills to let them know we are after an Aston and want to have a nose around the Bentley

Seem to be a few Gallardo around and I quite like the idea of being pampered for a bit by the chaps at RR

I have just got instructions to "find a nice car for me, I trust your choice". Ha haa, sweet. Bentley it absolutely isn't then!

They only have a silver DB9 in stock or a black Vanq S!

This is going to be so fun. The poor buggers have to impress me and not him (an easier job) to sell a car.

Yes, the life of an 18 year old lad with filthy rich parents is bloody well compensated I tell you.

I know I will have a decent spare motor if the Cerb ever misbehaves.

Get the Vanquish S.

Been back in London for a short time and seen so many Conti GTs it'ss unreal. There are three in the basement car park of my building! It's a seriously ugly car both outside and in.

The front of the GT is Rover with bodykit and the rear is just a disaster.

Just waiting to see the price on the Vanquish and see if he can press the oldtimers for a bit more cash. If not, I am going full steam on the persuading front for the DB9. Anyone have an idea when the vantage is due in the U.S? He is an impatient begger though.

You wouldn't want to know how much he paid for the Range down in Aus. Absolutely criminal.

Stunning colour on your Tuscan, BTW.
