How much does it cost to charter a small jet?

From a couple of grand an hour to megabucks.

Something like a Pilatus PC12 (not a jet) will be cheaper, Jet Fly Aviation being a pretty large operator. If a jet is a must Blinkair operate a fleet of Citation Mustangs. As an air traffic controller I should not be promoting the use of these types as they like to play at big boy levels but can't manage big boy speeds so are disproportionately hard work!

I see from the Privatefly link earlier in the thread that there is an empty leg today between Blackbushe and Farnborough. You could quite easily walk that

There seem to be a few legs from Le Mans on the 15th and to Le Mams on the 18th, no idea why!

However there is a leg from Le Mans on the 18th. Not sure why someone else is going there and not coming back that day

I saw that. Perhaps someone's wife/family arriving and then they are flying out on a different plane.

Just having a flick through there, there's one from Nice to Cannes (about half an hour on the train). RRP is €1,600 so I guess it gives you the chance to go on a PJ for a few hundred Euros, then get SNCF to take you back. I assume a lot of these aren't really empty legs but ferry flights as there's a lot of Biggin Hill to Luton or Charleroi to Brussels where a car would be faster than a plane.

A friend of mine chartered a private A320 with all the trimmings .. sofas, big screens etc from Luton to Italy - he said it cost him in the region of 120k one way..

Hmm. I've been on the Acropolis A319CJ based at Farnborough and at the time it was about £12k/hr according to the engineer we spoke to, probably more like £14k now given the $ rate. £120k sounds way over the odds.

That does sound enormously expensive even for a A320. Bear in mind for a one way trip he could well have been paying for the empty leg the other way, charter day returns aren't much more expensive than one way.

Of course how extravagant chartering a jet is depends on how many people you can squeeze onto it. Walk up business class fare to Italy is about £500 so if you can fill it, and your schedule would mean extra connections and hotels if travelling commercial, then a charter can be merely expensive rather than totally insane.

Totally agree ..

flight was for family , minders , nannies etc.. I think it was around 25 people altogether on board.

Interestingly (or not) we were told that one of the problems with it is that the owners wanted to be able to get the maximum range they could without refuelling so specced it with a small water tank (think it was 100 litres) to save weight so that lovely en suite shower has to be used very sparingly.

Aye, it still takes forever to fill with water! But yes, extended range tanks, so no rear hold. (well, very very small)

There used to be a private jet cost calculator on the Manchester Airport website, don't know if it's still there but I priced up the cost for a flight to Faro for the family holiday a few years ago, it was £15k each way for a 2.5 hour flight.

I hired a 12 seat business jet the other month to move some people around Afghanistan. 3 different cities over a 24 hour period. Total cost approx. $40,000. No alcohol on board though!
