I'm departing for Le Mans 6am Saturday. Car seized a brake calliper today. So I've had to book Friday off in hope I can get the parts and fit them in a day. Any one else suffering a last minute crisis before the most important week of the year?

Last year the day before departure I realised my passport had expired a few months back, after my initial panic trying to get another one sort which wasn't going to happen, so thought sod it, gave it ago, got there and back with no problems! beer

Those were the days. I can remember the old Dover Boulogne crossing with not customs officer or border guard in sight. Passport booths abandoned.

A couple of years I realised the day before departure that not only had I booked parking instead of camping I hadnt booked a ferry either. Finally organised some camping tickets when I was at the services on the M20 near Folkestone.

Dropped the beast in at the specialist on Weds morning for a laundry list of jobs, told them I needed it back by Monday night at the latest. Called them yesterday night and apparently the young lad on the desk had taken away from our conversation that I was in no hurry for it and told them all that it'd be fine some point later next week.

Can't say I was best pleased. They're prioritising it today.

Panic over for me, new calipers on this morning, bled it all up and test drive complete. Time to start throwing the camping stuff in the back ready for the off first thing in the morning.

I'll be on the road by 6 tomorrow, there's nowhere better to be in the world this week so what else would I do? Go to work?

We are having a couple of freebie days at the in-laws cottage on route. It's only about 2 hours from Le Mans so makes a good staging post. Wont get to Houx until Tuesday or Wednesday
