What battery Chargers do People use.

Im thinking about getting a battery charger, I think there is one that you leave connected to the car all the time and you just plug the charger into that, Optimate or an Accumate ?

Which one is the better and which are people using on here?

Had an Accumate since I bought the cerb and had no starting problems since. Just bought another 2 off eBay for my dad

Yup, I use an Accumate too... I have an external weatherproof plug mounted on my front number plate to connect to.

Bought mine on Ebay too, think I paid around £26 for it.

AFAIK the Optimate is designed to be used on bikes!

I think the Optimate and the Actimate are the same, as far as i'm aware. As someone has said, the Optimate is aimed at bikes.

I have got A CTEK and can HIGHLY recommend them. Absolutely superb chargers, reckoned to be some of the best in the World. They charge gel cell and sealed lead acid as well as regular car batteries. They also use a special charging method that means batteries don't dry and therefore can be left connected indefinitely with no adverse affects at all (normally this dries batteries out as I understand it). It also has a Winter mode for keeping batteries topped up in very cold conditions.

Oh, and it can dump up to 4A into a battery if required. It's a small size and, well, they are the tops.

Mine (Multi XS 3600 model) was a freebie so I can't say to be sure, but I think they are about £35-50 IIRC.

Thanks for your help guys, Looks like I'll be purchasing a Accumate then, I'm going to run a plug to the front so I can plug it in easier. No More flat batteries!
