Currently in Mauritius and the hotel has a jewellery concession that has some potentially interesting diamonds. As they are sold duty free, they don't have the huge overheads of Blue Nile and the massive mark up on jewellery, am I being reasonable expecting them to get somewhere close to Blue Nile pricing for equivalent quality?

FYI I live in Switzerland, so the usual suggestions of see Nightmare, DomH, go to Hatton Gardens isn't really going to work.

It has to be worth asking the question. Surely.

Oh definitely. I've already been in to have an initial chat and have mentioned I'm expecting pricing competitive with Blue Nile. The guy said we could talk more once he's got the ones I'm interested in for me to view later today.

The way I see it is if they are certified they are essentially a commodity/homogeneous and as it is an opportunistic purchase, I'm under no pressure to buy - would be nice to handle the goods rather than purchasing online if possible. Just don't know whether I'm taking the piss and BN genuinely have economies of scale a smaller jeweller can't compete with.

So just have the chat and ask away.

Ultimately, the seller will decide the price, not you wink
