Seat Belt Retractor Removal
Discussion
Hi, My 1983 Tasmin 280i has a "sticky" seatbelt mechanism, meaning It often will not pull out. The mechanism locks and will not release, even when the belt is loose. I tried WD40 where I can get it, in the mechanism, to no avail. Hitting the mechanism body does the trick sometimes! The bolt holding the retractor to the chassis will not shift - is one of them LH thread by any chance? I'm trying to remove the mechanism to have a better look. Any advice appreciated - thanks.
It's the right hand belt.

It is unlikely to be a LH thread so be careful. You'll be in a worse position if you snap off that bolt. Try and ease the belt out bit by bit, there may be something caught in the coils of the belt causing it to stick.
Failing that, keep soaking the bolt regularly with something like Plusgas and give it a tweak every few days or so until it frees. Good luck

When my belt stuck and would not pull out of the roll I was told to make sure the mechanism that has the roll of belt in it was a close to vertical as possible. A quick tweak of the roll mechanism and rotated it around the bolt a few degrees and it worked fine.

Hi guys,
Thanks for your advice. No it wasn't a LH thread. I managed to get a longer socket that fitted much better over the bolt and with a long wrench it came free. The problem wasn't just having the fitting vertical. I've had a look at it and the spring I reckon has had it and the whole mechanism needs refurbishing. So I am looking for someone who can refurbish a 1980s Kangol British mechanism....... Any ideas?
Your help is much appreciated.

You'll be better off buying a new set as refurbed will likely to cost more. The spec is from a Triumph GT6 - Securon have them listed on their website.Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
