So I'm potentially moving jobs which means now commuting by train most of the way.

I therefore no longer need by big diesel for my 50ish mile current commute.

My new drive will be 3 miles each way to the station so I can get something sillier to do the drive and use at weekends for a bit of a laugh.

Can anyone think of something better than an E46 M3, MK3 MX5 or perhaps a Clio200?

Have another estate for practical duties so can even be a 2 seater and big engines or MPG not a worry now. Petrol obviously the default choice.

Perhaps get a moped instead. Normally free parking for them at the station.

No bike licence!

Moped could be a shout though but for rainy days not sure I can be bothered!

Shame they're great fun, another option is a Megane 265 Trophy edition:

At £10 k get a Boxster or similar and a moped. I use a moped for the station run and normally just have an outdoor rain jacket as it keeps out the wind. A couple of times a year I use some over trousers. It all gets stashed under the seat or in the helmet box.

Don't under-estimate just how convenient a moped or scooter can be for the station run.

Free parking
80+ mpg
Parking is close to the platform - even if you get the 9:00am train.
Can exit the car park quickly to get home, even if there's a massive queue
Helmet and gloves store under the seat
A "scooter blanket" stays fixed to the scooter and keeps your legs and feet dry even if it's pi$$ing down - and keeps the seat dry when you're not riding it.

If you've got steep hills round your way or you're a bit on the chunky side, then a 1/2 day CBT course every 2 years means you can ride a 125 (with L plates).

I may consider it actually. No hills on route. Chunky?..... moving on....hehe

I can park it in the garage at home so no going out to a wet scooter each morning at least!

And bold bit - I wish! 6.13 train for me!

I'm actually thinking something tiny and easy to park without worrying about dings etc - Twingo 133?

Use a cheapy cover overnight. Stops condensation on the seat too. Keep a small towel under the seat to wipe it down at the station. If you are old enough just get a 50cc de restricted. Mine will do almost 45mph. Don't keep a cover on in high wind.

Get a Smart Fortwo in Passion spec for station duties:

That leaves a nice sum for some weekend fun also the insurance is silly cheap if you link it to your weekend toy.
