I've been called a top man twice this week.
Once by some lads in the local pizza shop. Was having the usual banter and then on leaving called top man.

Second was after an altercation in a sandwich shop. Where I'd had a few words with a young lad.

As I'm of an older generation I wanted to check we had sorted out issues out before driving off. Yes we had sorted out differences out and shook hands. Next thing top man

Is this some youth speak that's respectful or the opposite

The meaning is pretty much exactly the same as if someone were to say you're a 'top bloke' or 'sound'.

That's a relief, not that I was over worried.
