I'm now only a day away from the end of my cameravan training course....and will be 'operating' a cameravan a couple of times at least each month...

Where do I send my Pistonhead resignation to....
Presume that will now be required?

He's only doing his job, I guess.

Assuming of course that he isn't going to deliberately hide behind trees on deserted dual carriageways , eh Street ???

Hmmm. Well at least Street seems like a stand up guy on here.

He has to do his job.

I suspect that if he caught me then I'd deserve it - can't think he'd deliberately be involved in hiding behind trees on open quiet roads. If I get busted near a school at 40mph then I deserve to get done.

Oh Dear Steet - what is to become of our fine Force? Perhaps now you can give us some "insider" information - like:
How do you form an impression of speed or is it random zapping?
What are the rules of engagement for the tallyvans - do you have to hit a quota?
Do you use any discretion?
How do you pick the sites - and where are they?
Where do you go for a pee-break - or do you take a bottle?

I am sure there are lots of other questions but some insight would be valuable. Do you tell your friends what you do?

Park your van on a built up accident-prone area and I don't really mind. Park it up on the A1 on a Saturday morning and you're a bit of a mong tbh.

Do you get a choice of location or does some bean counter direct you to it?

My force doesn't put them on motorways, whatsoever.

The vans are located in areas of speeding complaints or recent KSI sites. Although, I know of 4/5 that are a bit questionable regarding past incidents. Having said that, they are also locations where I feel the limit SHOULD be adhered to.

Ultimately, if I don't want to operate the van, I don't have to. It's not a core requirement of my role and there's always someone else to work them on their days off...if I don't.

Gary, do I sense a bit of the old conscience kicking in here mate?

Good to have you back anyway. And at least "they" can't tell you where to go and what to do.

Whats your thoughts on it? Pure revenue generation? Its a waste and a shame if you are so anti them, thats all....

Thanks mate.
I'm splitting my free internet time between PH and a couple of other traffic-law sites.

Greg

I feel there are various sites around the country that have camera locations where I fail to see the reason. There are a couple in my force...about 4 or 5 off the top of my head. However, the 50 or so others seem to be in locations were I would agree they are needed. I can think of a couple of dozen other locations where there aren't any cameras and there should be.

I'm not really against cameras, per se, as I feel they have a part to play in road safety. I mean, some people wont speed along a road with a camera on as they don't want points/fine. Not that they might collide with a child or something, but the financial penalty seems to appear higher in their reasoning.

What I am against is the percentage of traffic law enforcement afforded to cameras instead of human trafpol.
I'm not talking about the benefits of 'discretion', which often comes back to bite you in the arse anyway, when the motorist objects to the bollocking.
I'm thinking more of the ability trafpol have to detect driving offences like mobile phone abuse, poor lane discipline, road rage, dangerous driving, no insurance, licence, drink drivers etc etc...All of whom are out of the reach of a camera...

Is something that you'll be required to do as part of your job, or is some extra, part-time work for the Scamera Partnership?

Oh, very much the latter.

I have to do speed enforcement during normal work; ie: vascar stuff on motorways and other roads and prolaserII on other roads etc....

This is just; extra mortgage paying duties on days off.
