So a couple of months ago I got stopped for speeding, was doing 37mph in a 30. I was issued a Traffic Offence Report at the roadside.
Under the 'Offence details' it gives code RR84213 excess speed 30mph. All seems as you'd expect. Under the same section is another box headed 'Speed (if applicable)'. This has been completed as '30'. I would've assumed this would be where my speed should be shown?
I hadn't heard anything for several weeks so had got to thinking that the officer had completed the ticket wrong and I'd got away with it... but no. Offer of a fixed penalty or course came through this week.

Just wondered if someone with more knowledge on the TOR could confirm if / where it should show the speed I was doing? And also, if it should as I expect be where they've written 30, is it worth pushing for court as opposed to accepting the points or course?

Thanks

My guess would be you would have to take it court and then almost certainly lose as it's just paperwork error ! I got done for no tax disc, car was taxed just disc not in window! The police got the wrong make of car, wrong colour (red not blue) and the reg wrong ! Made no difference, I argued that if they can't tell red from blue how can they be qualified to check a tax disc if I have a tax disk ?
I was told take it to court or pay up

In the Speed (if applicable) box you put the recorded speed.

However no, you won't get away with it as the officer will provide the actual speed/range/time in the statement he will provide to the court. Probably.

Whilst I'm sure the above responses are correct, it seems mad that something as important as the speed noted on the speeding ticket is entirely moot...

The 'ticket' isn't important, it's just a piece of admin paperwork.

I just feel care should be given with that kind of stuff. Just imagine it in other lines of work. Oh, I put the comma in the wrong place? No big deal. $ instead of £? Oops. Oh well.

Such a basic error undermines the whole situation imo. You have a document that states 30. It should be down to the PC to get that right. I can't imagine it's difficult filling out one of those forms...

I got stopped for speeding. Number plate was completed wrong on the ticket. Advice given on there was the same, it's just paperwork and they'll correct it in court and then throw the book at you. I took the FPN.

How does the back office know whether to offer a SAC or points or a 12 month ban if they don't know what the alleged speed was? Or do they get yet another form?

Was most likely corrected before sending off.

Also on the back of the TOR (the officer copy) is a mini-statement that you complete before sending to the CTO. Speed will more than likely be in there. If not, the officer will get an email asking him kindly for the speed, and to fill in the ticket properly next time.
